Why is Nash untouchable?

In reading various articles, it would appear the Suns are telling other teams that Hill, Nash and Barbosa are untouchable (source).

Nash has a team option for next season at $13M. The Suns cant be thinking of excercising that option, right? Given Sarver's cost cutting, I dont really see what the strategy is.

It's called having a coach on the floor. Particularly if the one on the bench might not be getting it done.

This has been discussed on here ad nauseam. His popularity in Phoenix is probably second to none, maybe Warner / Fitz at the moment, but he's by far the most popular Suns player. Ticket sales would dwindle to nothing if they moved Nash, it's a fact.

It sounds like Nash's option is partially guaranteed. I heard on the radio that if the Suns decline his option, they'd still have to pay him $7 mill in salary.

They are planning to renegotiate his contract, which Im assuming will execute the team option and start small and go longer. Nash puts a lot of butts in the seats.

I understand the Nash thing, but I think it underrates the bakerball fans in this town. They know this team is going no where with Nash and understand rebuilding. That said, this town supports one thing, winning, no matter who plays. You could have a team of Nashs but if that team is getting killed every night Phoenix fans will stop showing up.

The Suns are saying that because:

1. Nash has stated that he plans on ending his career a Sun (even if that isnt true, Nash is playing to the fans)

2. Its season ticket renewal time in the NBA. Moving Nash all but gurantees the Suns lose a ton of season ticket holders, especially with the falling out between Amare, the organization, and the fans.

I agree. Winning makes people pay those tickets. So sad to see this team go down in flame without any direction...I just can't believe what this team has become...

That's how far Nash has fallen in the last year or so. You could even start to see the decline last year with his plethora of turnovers late in games and decline in ball handling skills.

Rondo cant shoot and I love watching Nash stop and pop the 3 on a fast break. Oh and the 23 assist games are nice too.

Nash's problem was the system, turnovers were rancid with Porter at the helm. That was the only change in Nash's game in the last year.

Rondo is shooting 50% from the field this year. His outside shot needs some work but so did Amare's a couple years ago.

Ditto. I'd ask for more but i'd be thrilled to have a defensive PG that can distribute to the Amare's/Shaq's/JRich's etc...

How do you figure that? He turns it over 3.8 times per game this season, which is only 0.2 higher than last season and exactly the same as two years ago. It's also only 0.3 higher than his second MVP season and 0.5 higher than his first. The statistics do not support your assertion.

No they're not. They are running an offense that is now even more prone to turnovers, because as a team the Suns are averaging two more turnovers per game than the past two seasons.

I think the only reason Nash would be untouchable is if he told the team he doesn't want to be traded and the Suns are honoring his wishes. Same with Hill who signed in good faith when he could have gotten more elsewhere.

They have significantly less possessions. You cant look at turnovers, but look at the turnover/possession rate.


Which leads me to the most baffling stat ever in life. Has another team ever lead the league in Turnovers AND FG% at the same time? The best shooting team and the worst ball handling team in the league? Really?!? That's some twilight zone **** right there.
