Why isn't this team playing better?

Time for a new coach, like, yesterday. Porter seems like a nice enough guy, but this team has CLEARLY tuned him out. Been building all year and the dam has burst. He must be a nice guy, because players are now biting their tongues during interviews to not openly criticize him.

Kerr needs to use those brass balls he had during the Shaq trade and admit he screwed up. Porter is just not a veteran's coach. Maybe for a young team, but we are (or should be) 1-3 years away from that spot. He has no feel for this roster's strengths and weaknesses - keeps trying to forcefit everything. And he has HORRIBLE roster management during games. It's much easier to fire the coach then trade 2/3rds of a team that doesn't fit the coach's style.

If Kerr's goal is to turn the Suns into a beat-em-up, pound-it-out, half-court team like the Spurs or the Pistons (terrible idea, btw), it is going to take years and smart trades/drafting. You might as well get a coach who can use the veterans we have until they roll off over the next few years, while you restock through the draft. Having a coach who makes your current talent look like crap just lowers their trade value.

Get a respected, veteran coach in here ASAP - see if Doug Collins or Hubie Brown will take a 6 month shot at a wild-card run to a ring. One of 'em might do it, as this is a pretty stacked group that, if they got hot at the right time, could ride a healthy Shaq deep into the playoffs. Oh, and tell Amare he has until the trade deadline to get his *hit together or he gets to see how much fun it is living in Detroit or Philly or somewhere else bleak and cold and filled with angry, unforgiving fans.

If they don't make the playoffs, or if they flame out in the first or second round, start rebuilding this summer. Let Hill sign with a contender. Get Nash and Shaq to contenders if possible, as they will both be expiring contracts and deserve final shots at rings within organizations that give a hoot (something I always thought the Suns exemplified). Ship anyone else who didn't play their butt off for the new coach, including Amare if needed.

Sigh. I miss Jerry C. :(
