I'd be very excited if we hired the Chipster.
But the hiring wouldn't be without some risk - i.e. unorthodox college guy with weird ideas and no pro track record as a HC - somewhat of an unknown entity from a pro perspective.
I don't think it could happen but could you imagine (if he stayed) a Ray Horton defense creating a turnover after turnover and handing the ball over to Kelly's offense so it could score a TD 15 seconds later; over and over until we'd win 162 - 0?
We can dream.
But back to reality. Other NFL teams besides us are making the pilgrimage to Oregon's Fiesta Bowl practices. Some will be on hand to scout the Duck pro prospects, but others are probably touching base with Kelly because they're interested in him as a possible HC. Logically, interviews would have to wait until after tonight's game, so any visits by the pros would be little more than courtesy calls. It's not a lock that Kelly even has any interest in leaving Oregon right now, but it's not out of the realm of possibility that one or more owners will be sufficiently impressed to be willing to roll the dice on Kelly.
Regardless of whether he goes pro, which team if any hires him (and whether he ultimately is successful as a pro coach), Kelly is the most exciting and intriguing coaching candidate to hit the scene in a long, long time.
