Everyone here wants someone with something to prove; someone with offensive potential; someone who is fresh, new and unproven.

Why not Chip Kelly?

I'd be very excited if we hired the Chipster.

But the hiring wouldn't be without some risk - i.e. unorthodox college guy with weird ideas and no pro track record as a HC - somewhat of an unknown entity from a pro perspective.

I don't think it could happen but could you imagine (if he stayed) a Ray Horton defense creating a turnover after turnover and handing the ball over to Kelly's offense so it could score a TD 15 seconds later; over and over until we'd win 162 - 0?

We can dream.

But back to reality. Other NFL teams besides us are making the pilgrimage to Oregon's Fiesta Bowl practices. Some will be on hand to scout the Duck pro prospects, but others are probably touching base with Kelly because they're interested in him as a possible HC. Logically, interviews would have to wait until after tonight's game, so any visits by the pros would be little more than courtesy calls. It's not a lock that Kelly even has any interest in leaving Oregon right now, but it's not out of the realm of possibility that one or more owners will be sufficiently impressed to be willing to roll the dice on Kelly.

Regardless of whether he goes pro, which team if any hires him (and whether he ultimately is successful as a pro coach), Kelly is the most exciting and intriguing coaching candidate to hit the scene in a long, long time.

Dennis Dixon is sitting on the Ravens practice squad. Grab him, Kelly and draft a guy and lets get this party started.

I would not be for, or against this move.

I think I would go into a "wait and see" state if Chip Kelly came in.

I watched a few Oregon games this year, and I am not sure how his style would translate in the pros.

Again not saying it will or will not work. Just not sure.

I think because Mitch likes him is reason enough to say why not :)

Don't have an opinion either way about Kelly, and i agree that "everyone here" probably wants someone with offensive potential... but who exactly is clamoring for a coach who hasn't proven anything in the NFL, and is "new and unproven"??

I think the vast majority of us would prefer someone who HAS proven something in the NFL and is experienced and proven, not "new and unproven".

Who's to say that Michael won't bring him in for an interview at some point? If not for HC maybe for OC.

The Redskins offense is like an NFL version of what Kelly does at Oregon and I don't think you need a guy as athletic as RG3 to make it work either. LHS would be good in the Redskins O.

They just said on the pre-game that Chip Kelly will need a young offensive line to run his style offense in the NFL. They said a bunch of 10 year vets wouldn't be able to keep up with the pace.

Do we have one of the youngest O-lines in the NFL? It will probably hopefully get younger after the draft as well. I would rather have Horton first, McCoy second, but who knows who we end up with.

I don't want Chip because its going to be a 3 year building process MINIMUM to get the system in place, the players he needs, and the tweaking done to be successful.

For those who only know Kelly from what others say about him -

Here I am in NJ - a Johns Hopkins alum who follows Rutgers due to the local factor.

Make that Rutgers and Oregon. I started following the Ducks a few years ago after seeing Kelly's offense in action and have never stopped rooting for them since.

One thing's for sure - if Kelly were to come to AZ, being a Cardinal rooter would never be boring...Digitalis City 24/7.

Because he'd probably bust out in the NFL. A lot of his offense is predicated on one thing: Superior Athletes. He uses speed and misdirecdtion and tempo to wear down defenses. He wont have those type of atheltes that he can exploit mismatches with in the NFL.

I should say his offense would bust out. If he is capable of adapting and using some of the pieces of that offense to attack NFL defenses he could have success. However relying on tempo, atheltes and misdirection wont get it done in the NFL.

Chip Kelly has all the money and facilities you could have at Oregon, is hailed as a college football deity, yet Les Miles has more MNC hardware than Kelly. Anyone want to hire Miles as HC?

I pass on the guy, and I don't care whether his offense would work in the NFL or not.

Oregon is waiting for the NCAA Infractions Committee to drop the hammer on them. Chip Kelly doesn't have to worry about recruiting infractions in the NFL.
