Why not just trade Hood?

Ok so I'm pretty sore about the cuts of LaBoy and Hood but there's one thing that I can't seem to get past so hopefully someone can talk some sense into me.......Was Hood really so bad that they couldn't have traded him to someone and at least go something for him? I have a hard time believing that they couldn't find some team to give up something even as small as a late round pick next year if they really wanted to get rid of him. I know a sixth or seventh round pick wouldn't have been a huge return but it's better than nothing.

I understand this is mostly about the cap, but wouldn't they have the same amount of cap savings if they'd have traded him?

How are we to assume they didn't try to during the draft?

Maybe they did, but I have a hard time thinking a team that was picking a CB in the 6th or 7th round (13 cb's were taken in the last two rounds) wouldn't have rather had Hood instead of completely unproven rookie who's a long shot at best to make the team.

It takes two to tango.

There is a semi-easy way to sort this question out.

Is Hood a vested veteran? (I think he is) If so, he can sign with anyone immediately. We will be able to see who picks him up and speculate if a trade could have been done with that team. But if it takes a long time for him to catch on somewhere, or if he signs a minimal contract, we will know that he didn't have much value.

If he isn't a vested veteran, then he has to pass through waivers. If no one picks him up on waivers, then we will know there was truly no market for him.

A lot of teams just dont want to take on a 3 mill contract at draft time. Maybe later when injuries happen but not during the draft. Its why Pitt didnt find any takers for Foote during the draft either. Players that make over 2 mill that are not elite are just so hard to trade on draft day and it rarely happens.

You cant convince me that the #1 starting CB on the NFC championship team cant be traded. Sorry you just cant.

They would have been trying to trade a guy with a $3m dollar price tag who had just lost his job to a free agent pickup.

DRC was not our #1 CB in the end of the season or playoff run. I think Hood was even #1 in the superbowl depth as well.
DRC was covering Roddy White, Steve Smith & Santonio Holmes in the playoffs.

Hood may now shop his services to 31 other teams. Why would a team trade for him and have to pay his old salary? The team that signs him will probably save 1 mil per year and not give up anything in a trade. I trust the Coaches and Organization in this. If you are a veteran on this team you had better be productive. We can find someone to do the job cheaper and maybe better. I did like Hood's comments reported by Kent Somers: http://www.azcentral.com/members/Blog/KentSomers/52110#comments

And the guy in Philly too. Didnt they all score TD's?

I was talking depth chart. hood was #1. DRC replaced Green who was #2. Hood was never demoted.
You are talking about a depth chart? The depth chart showed Hood as the starting LCB and DRC as the starting RCB. The depth chart doesn't say this CB is #1. You figure that one out by looking at who the CBs are covering when they are in man coverage.

Sure they all scored touchdowns. Do you think that Hood could have done as good or better than DRC?

ah this explains it

Hood told me this morning that he had earned a play-time incentive that would have boosted his salary by $2 million. That means he would have made $5 million in salary and his cap number would have been $5.5 million in 2009. That's too much to pay for a backup cornerback.

"When they brought me here, I think they thought I would be a nickel corner," Hood said. "When I hit that incentive, it was tough to keep me. I enjoyed my run in Arizona. I had a great run."
