Why not just trade Hood?

No earth I dont think Hood would have done better than DRC BUT I think Hood is uber better than McFadden.

You posted the #s from football outsiders after the 2007 season that showed they rated Hood as one of the best cover corners in the NFL. That's what I don't get. Why the coaching staff suddenly decided he was just a backup.

The only thing I can figure is that they hope to improve the tackling in the secondary with McFadden over Hood.

But glad to see that ASFN is staying true to form. If the guy is a Cardinal who isn't in a contract hassle with the Cards he's awesome. But as soon as he's gone he wasn't that good anyway and we won't miss him.

Hood wasn't good enough to pay him 5.5 million next year. Did he play at Texas or something?

You must not have seen Mcfadden play...he has ball skills and can really turn his hips - something that Hood lacks. I like Hood and think he's a real pro but not at that price. Ralph Brown can replace him and although Toler is raw, I think he'll surprise us...

Sad that you have to base your decisions on players on how much they make instead of whether they are the best, or one of the best, players at their position on your team or not. But that's the nature of the NFL.

Once again, Swd posted after the 2007 season that Football Outsiders ranked Hood as one of the top CBs in the NFL based on, I think, % of passes thrown at him that were complete or something like that. Based on that information I just would like to know how Hood dropped from that ranking and I might add, an ASFN favorite at one time, to being just a #3 CB not worth the money he was going to make.

Hood isn't concerned because he'll just go get paid somewhere else.

Its like Lee Trevino said when asked about the pressure of having a putt to win a tournament and $500,000: There's no pressure, if I miss they give me $250,000.

What happens if McFadden is another Terrance Holt? The Cards can pay $5 million for a guy who has never played a down for them and hasn't started more than 8 games in a season in his career but a 2 year starter at the same position on a team that went to the Super Bowl isn't worth $5.5 million?

That's what I still want to know. What happened for Hood to fall from grace so quickly?

I was wandering[around in my brain] why we couldn't have gotten a 4th for Hood myself, so that shows where I.m at....

It's cardinal logic. It used to be the only way a Cardinal's fan could remain sane...
;)

The Cardinals have changed but some of our behaviors, i.e. - coping mechanisms, remain!

Let's just hope McFadden proves out to be as good or better than Hood.
I do think that as "anytimeuwant" surmised yesterday, it signifies a shift in defensive philosophy - more press coverages and better run support.
