Why shouldn't Whiz be mentioned as coach of the year?

Especially if we go 11-5 or even 10-6?

Weren't we one of the worst franchises in NFL for decades? Three consecutive non-losing seasons. Super bowl appearance 2nd year. NFC west 2nd year in a row?

New Orleans went from 8-8 to having a chance to win 14 or 15 games, Whisenhunt can't compete with that...at best we get a 2 game improvement at worst the Saints have a 5 game improvement.

He can be mentioned, but he won't win. We have three really ugly losses this year in addition to what the others have said about the other coaches.

They're not going to give it to a coach for going 11-5 when his team is the defending conference champs. Not unless he had to overcome HUGE obstacles to do it.

New OC, new DC and a new RB. Maybe not "huge", but they were obstacles.

If there's one thing that I really don't know how they judge though, it's the coach of the year.

It seems as if the team is too good, then the coach doesn't get it because there is too much talent and he "should" win. If the team is pretty good then the coach doesn't get it because the team wasn't good "enough".

The only real pattern that I've seen is that the surprise team that wasn't supposed to be good but made the playoffs is the one they choose. Whis would seem to fit that but he's not going to overcome a first year coach going undefeated.

But that was a team loaded with talent and already a playoff contender... Whiz completely changed the culture and mentality of this team.

Duh, because he coaches the Cardinals. What type of real coach would even take that job?

The east and west coast writers are just not going to give Whiz or for that matter the Cards much attention. We are not one of the "pretty" teams no matter what our record is. Even almost winning the superbowl brought us little attention. Pittsburg with a record not as good as ours gets twice the coverage. The Eagles have a good team this year and are the current darlings of the media.

The Colts are clearly the class of the NFL but even they happen to live in the wrong part of the country.

Yeah, but this is for the Coach of the Year Award, not Coach of the Last Few Years Award.

The Culture was changed 3 years ago when he started here, and even if you want to argue that it wasn't that soon, it definitely wasn't this year.

The culture changed when Michael Bidwill took over day-to-day operations of the team.

He's "OUR" Coach of the Year... :)

Hey! There's a thought. How 'bout we, the members of ASFN, have our "own" awards?? Rookie of the Year? Honorable Mention? MOST INSPIRATIONAL??, MOST IMPROVED, etc. ...And then have something given to the players as a memento of it. Just an idea. As for Whiz'... I think we're VERY FORTUNATE to have a leader like him. GO CARDS! :D

Yeah, Whisenhunt was more deserving last year than Tomlin.

Tomlin took over a team that had won 63 games over the 6 years prior to his becoming HC.

Whisenhunt took over a team that had lost 64 games during the same time frame and had them in the Super Bowl.

This year the stinkers against Carolina and SF following huge wins knocks him out of contention imo.

In all fairness, he should have won the award last season. He wasnt even one of the five candidates. What sealed his fate was the deficiencies towards the end of the regular season. Tomlin won it with a perennial playoff team on which he made little impact (mind you, the award is decided prior to the Superbowl). Unless the Cards win 12 or more next season, Whis wont ever win the award and it's a travesty IMO.

Actually, the award is decided based on regular season which I don't agree with.

I agree with others that he should have been considered last year but the blowout losses to Vikings, Eagles, and Pats towards the end destroyed whatever that chance.

He may not win this award, but, he certainly deserves a new contract. Anty up MB.

The Bidwills need to approach him with an excellent offer right after the season even before there is a need to go to the table for negotiation... the man deserves it!

True that. And its too bad because KW took basically the same guys that Denny Green went 6-10, 5-11, 5-11 with to the Super Bowl.

Personally, I think this is a great idea.
