This month, MassLive will look at the top four realistic options for the Patriots in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. Mike Vrabel’s team holds the No. 4 pick. If they don’t trade down, these are the most realistic options.
He was a three-year starter at tackle for Missouri. He earned All-SEC honors this past season.
NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah says he has “no doubt” that Membou is a starting-caliber tackle.
Patriots Director of Player Personnel Matt Groh was at his Missouri Pro Day.
Why the pick makes sense: Tackle remains the team’s biggest need.
Membou, who is 6-4, 332 pounds, hits all the measurables, including arm length (33 1/2 inch arms) and wingspan (82 inches). He’s extremely athletic, running a 4.91 40-yard dash.
He had the best athleticism score for offensive tackles at the NFL’s Scouting Combine.
Last season, he didn’t allow any sacks or quarterback hits in 411 pass-blocking attempts.
In recent weeks, he’s risen up the boards. Some draft experts have him rated ahead of LSU’s Will Campbell. He’s also been linked to the Patriots in mock drafts. At the very least, he’s moved up to top 10 overall prospect status.
Missouri coach Eliah Drinkwitz called Membou a “rare” athlete.
“Power and athleticism are his two biggest strengths,” Drinkwitz told NESN.com. “He’s very powerful when he gets his hands on you. That’s why he can play both guard and tackle at the next level. He is really, really dynamic. A rare specimen.”
Why it doesn’t: He’s only played right tackle in college. Having him move to left tackle isn’t an automatic. We’ve seen this movie before, and it’s tough to think they’d go back for a re-run.
Converting right tackles to left, while not impossible, isn’t the easiest transition.
Chuks Okorafor, a free agent signed during the offseason, left the team after struggling to make the transition.
Unless they trade down, taking Membou at No. 4 is also a bit of a stretch if the Patriots are truly going to “take the best player available.”
