In the immortal words of Tom Berenger and reminded to me by my friend Stuart Hacket: There's only one thing left to do. Win the whole FREAKING THING!

That's right. What? You all thought we were just gonna stroll into a series with the Spurs, the evil empire of the NBA and just have it handed to us on a silver and black platter? Would that have been nice? Yeah, but you know what, nice guys who take nice things FINISH FREAKING LAST.

Here's the nuts and bolts folks - most teams/towns that are STARVED for a title seem to have to go through HELL AND BACK to get that first one. Remember how AWFUL games 3-5 of the World Series was? Remember BYung Young Kim? Remember how AWFUL the eighth inning of Game 7 was? Remember how the Sox were down 3-0 to their most hated team and the evil Empire? Both us and the Sox came back from UNBELIEVABLE odds to win titles and they literally had to go up against history, horrible play and everything else. THAT'S how you seemingly have to win a title and apparently, it's the same way we're going to have to.

I can hear the naysayers now. Oh, that's baseball. It's different. Shut your damn pie hole and realize the universe is changing, at least for this calendar year, typified by JANUARY FIRST, where a little run and fun team that nobody believed in took a commanding lead against the big, rough and tough Oklahoma Sooners - it was amazing and then reality caught up and Oklahoma ended the dream scoring on fourth down to take the lead... UNTIL THAT FREAKING TEAM FROM BOISE SAID SCREW YOU! WE WILL NOT RIDE SILENTLY INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT. They fought and clawed and on 4th and Mile, they ran the most ridiculous 50 yard flea-flicker to send the game to OT, where again, reality reared it's ugly head as Adrian Peterson scored a TD on the first play - what did Boise do? Did they lie down like dogs? No - they said SCREW YOU AGAIN and got within one on a freaking Tackle eligible play and then WON IT WITH A STATUE OF LIBERTY TWO -POINT CONVERSION! THEY NEVER GAVE UP.

I can hear you now - that's college - it's different. But then three weeks later, we saw the NFL's equivalent of Spurs-Suns in the AFC TITLE GAME: PATS V. COLTS - Run and Gun contenders versus the Old Guard Champs. And what happened? The Colts went down 21 points. Did they give up? Did they surrender? No, they said SCREW YOU - WE WILL NOT LOSE THIS GAME and they roared back with one of the greatest comebacks of all time and stormed through the rets of the playoffs, finally winning the Super Bowl.

So what's next? We've had college football's version of the Suns winning an improbable game. We've had the NFL's version of the Suns winning an improbable title - IT'S FREAKING TIME FOR THE FREAKING SUNS, THE NBA'S VERSION OF THE SUNS TO WIN A FREAKING TITLE.

NOTHING WORTH HAVING COMES EASY. In fact, from the stuff above, we've seen that the GREATEST things in life come from the hardest circumstances possible. This IS one of those times. This is where LEGENDS are born.

In Game 5, we saw the Suns do their best 300 impression, battling for their lives, seemingly overcoming every obstacle and almost pulling out a miracle until they just couldn't do it anymoreand like Leonidas and his boys, Nash and his boys ultimately went down. But what happened after that? Word spread of the heart and fight those 300 men put up and reinforcements came to the Spartans, just as ****ing reinforcements are coming for Game 6 and we aren't just going to sit back, we are GOING TO TAKE THE WAR TO SAN ANTONIO AND FINISH OFF THOSE DOUCHEBAGS JUST LIKE THE SPARTANS DID TO THE PERSIANS!

Then, it all comes home, where the power of the MVP AND HELLBOY (and DB) will not let us lose.

I guaranteed Game 4 (albeit, I hedged before the game like a complete wuss) - and now I'm guaranteeing the series. WE WILL NOT LOSE. NOT TO THIS ****ING SHWAG ASS SPURS TEAM. OUR MOMENT OF GREATEST GLORY IS COMING AND NOTHING CAN STOP IT. Cheap Shot Rob, Hodgey Head Bruce, David Stern... NOTHING.

WE WILL PERSEVERE. WE WILL PREVAIL. AND WE WILL SHOCK AND DELIGHT THE WORLD TOMORROW NIGHT AND BEYOND!

GAME 6 - ALL OR NOTHING!

The Suns should have pulled it out last night, and that game is going to haunt me if they don't win this series. Against all odds, but completely dominating the Spurs - only to fall apart in the last 30 seconds. Heartbreaking.

However, I'd say with 90% certainty that Phoenix is going to win tomorrow night with a hungry Amare and a team that is royally pissed off after blowing what would have been the biggest upset game in the playoffs. (Not to mention the fact that the entire season rests on one game.) Then it's on to game 7 at home. The Suns WILL WIN GAME 7 if they can win game 6.

HELL YEAH!!!!, All I can think of is how if any team has shown that they can overcome its our SUNS!!! As new posters come to ASF we say welcome it will be painful. We know what it takes to beat LA down 3-0, we know what it feels like to lose AMARE and make it to the WCF, we know what to do when an injustice has been made to us WE ARE IMMUNE. Trip overtime, J Pax 3, and now Amare back Diaw back we know what we WILL do.
:band: GO SUNS!!!!

The Spurs played like choir boys in Game 5.

What are the odds they are going to do it again in Game 6 in San Antonio.

I would expect the cheap shots to resume in Games 6 and 7.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Decades ago, Harry Belafonte recorded a song called, "The Snake".

It was about a woman who found an injured snake, took it home, fed it and nursed it to health.

Then the snake bit her.

She said, "I don't understand. I gave you shelter and food and nursed you to health. Why did you bite me?"

And the snake said,

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

"Lady, you knew I was a snake when you took me in!"

first, thanks for the kudos. It is what I do for a living, but it's always nice to hear the above anyway.

Second, I know it's a couple hours too early, but there's been a SERIOUS lethargy on this board and it needed to be turned around NOW.

third, this was a case of premature postulation, but it's been building inside of me since Monday and just kept building as I watched us pour our heart and souls out on the floor last night, so I just had to get this out there.

Game 6 we take their heart, and game 7 we eat it.

YAYYYY!!!!

Great inspirational speech, Cheese -- hope it gets posted in the Suns' locker room, because they need to know that the fans are screaming for them in our living rooms as loud as we did last night. (I'm still totally hoarse and slightly deaf in one ear. I wear it like a badge of honor.)

(btw, if you like Thermopylae, gotta read Gates of Fire by Steven Pressman -- awesome, awesome book.)
