I'm not so concerned with why they lost but what this season and this series portends for the future. I have little doubt that Frank saw the series as a vindication of small ball and of his whole approach to the game. Heck, I like the idea of a small lineup playing a helter skelter game as a means of changing the rhythm of a game as much as the next guy but it's not a sound basis to build the whole team around. I'm afraid the Suns are not going to be looking to find or develop the serviceable center they need as long as FJ is at the helm. I wouldn't go so far as to say that the Jakes, big and small, are sufficient but they have shown enough not to rule them out - but it surely looks like FJ doesn't see them in that role or even the need for that role. He loves to talk about Voskuhl as one of his energy guys but the truth is that his 'energy' is detrimental to his game. It constantly gets him out of position and causes him to commit ridiculous fouls. It works for Bo Outlaw but Jake needs to work on his fundamentals and a fifteen foot face up shot.

With developement by Amare which you expect and some consistency by JJ, which is conjectureable, this team could be formidable next year even with FJ coaching it... particularly if Marbury's ankles can get back to full health and strength. It's certainly going to have awesome one-on-one talent. In fifty years of watching the NBA I've never seen a team with a title without strong team play om offense but maybe this team will be the exception - and if they stayed together long enough I imagine the players themselves would develop it. But I'd sure be a lot happier with a head coach that fostered the idea.
