Why Was That Not A TD?

When we recovered the fumble that led to the tying FG, why was it not a TD when Dockett(I think) picked it up and ran it in?

Because the call had to be reviewed, you get the ball where the defense recovered. You don't get to advance the ball, but you get to have posession.

Funny, it is because of the Cardinals, and their NFC Championship game vs. the Eagles that this rule is even in the books.

It came about after that horrendous call in the NFC Championship game where the Cardinals recovered a kickoff, and the refs (as usuall) blew the call. The replay showed it was obviously the Cardinals ball, but the play was not reviewable.

Play was ruled dead when the ref blew his whistle. Which is stupid, because you can still recover the fumble. They changed the rule, because it used to be that if the whistle blew the play was dead even if replay showed a clear fumble and recovery by an opposing team. We were burnt by this lack of a rule a couple years ago I think against the 9ers.

Next year I am sure they will come out with a much more defined rule about a player giving himself up, or just dropping the ball.

As for the non-TD, in reality, there's no excuse why we couldn't punch it in from 4 yards out. Our offense in the red zone needs to improve. Feely has 7 FG's less than 30 yards. This needs to improve.

To be fair, I have absolutely no problem with the fade attempt to Fitz. They should try that at least once every time they are that close to the end zone with single coverage on Fitz. The other two calls (shovel pass, and RB screen were horrible play calls)

Whoa! On 2nd down of the series leading to the tieing FG, we ran Beanie up the gut into the teeth of the Cleve offense & he lost 2 yards.

Same reasons I am still at odds with Whiz too. Dumb play calling for the situation before him.

The whistle already blew when he was sacked so the play was dead. Now if the whistle blew after DD scored the TD then another story.

I was screaming "Todd Haley needs to feed his kids!" after those calls. Really frustrating.

I'm pretty sure the big reason was the Ed "Guns" Hockolee blown call at Denver on the QB non-fumble that was the big cause of this rule change, though our playoff game didn't hurt the cause.

Dont really understand this logic. We were down 3. If we don't score, we kick the field goal. Losing yards from the 5 doesn't generally put you out of FG range, which it did not. And if you don't score a TD, clock doesn't matter because you are tied.

If you don't like the shovel pass, I get that, but these reasons don't support that.

Agreed. It would have been a 100 yard pick six if Haley was calling the plays.
