Because we have a young defense that carries none of the same old Cards disease and they learned from last season that if they get the ball back for the offense Fitzgerald, or Double Duece, or LSH or somebody will win the game for them.

I also believe our defense is what it showed the second half of the season.

On a side note who are you referring to when you say double deuce. TheSmel gave the now Seattle Deuce that nickname so I'm a little confused.

Well, that's the end of the season. Thanks, DJ. Can you start a thread about why Kolb will suck until he gets hurt, and how Patrick Peterson is completely overrated?

Don't worry, the Duckjake jinx doesn't kick in until Training Camp starts. Right now it only applies to draft picks and Cardinal baseball players. :p

Rugby nicknamed Skelton "Double Duece" after the two safeties he had last season. We already had one Duece so a Double Duece seemed appropriate.

Crap, DJ's on a positive note. Does that mean we're doomed?

The enthusiasm is warranted though, he hasn't seen a decent defense since we were the Chicago Cardinals:D

I had to go back and doublecheck everyone's number I couldn't figure out who you were talking about. That makes sense I wasn't here for that It definitely wasn't fun to watch. Although I'm a Skelton fan if he can only do what he does in the fourth quarter which should be the hardest time to perform in the first couple of quarters to go with our defense we just might have a contender.

I don't know if I've ever posted he's stats as the game goes along but he definitely can play in the clutch so I don't see why he can't do it when there is less pressure. When looking this up I found Kevin Kolb is almost the exact opposite.

John Skelton
First quarter completion percentage 42% 0 TD 3 INT QB rating 30.8%
Fourth quarter completion percentage 57.1% 6 TD 3 INT QB rating 89.3%
Attempts 31-40 of game 33 of 55 for 440 yards at 60.0% QB rating 90%

Kevin Kolb
First quarter completion percentage 60.4% 1TD 1 INT QB rating 76.8%
Fourth quarter completion percentage 50.7% 3TD 3 INT QB rating 74%
Attempts 31-40 of game 13 of 29 for 149 yards at 44.8% QB rating 43.6%

Anyways I don't mean to hijack your thread or start a quarterback debate I think with what our defense should be capable of with more experience and practice we might not even need a quarterback. :)

Hey I was a Packers fan when the Cards were in Chicago. Once they started playing in the same city where Ken Boyer played baseball it was adios Packers and hello Cardinals. The Gridbirds were pretty good in the '60s. 67-63 with 3 seasons winning 9 of 14. And then they had that run with Coryell in the '70s and a decent 3 year run with Lomax in the early '80s.

It was you pinheads in Arizona that jinxed them. :p

But back to the defense. I cannot remember a time where we had high caliber NFL talent at every level of the Defense. Dockett and Campbell on the line. DWash and Acho at LB. Peterson at CB and Wilson at S. And some really solid second tier players like Rhodes and Gay and DWilliams and Schofield, players who actually showed it on the field the last half of last season.

I doubt that if we had a new Head Coach come in he'd say he was surprised how poor the talent was at one of our defensive positions like Denny Green did with the LBs in 2004.

Why we won't win more than 8 games in
2012...our QBs! Doesn't matter if it's the guy with concussions or the guy who's favorite WR is the miller lite vendor in row 27. :D

Our D is young & talented but not dominant enough to consistantly beat the better NFL teams...just reality IMO.

That sums up the albatross I hang around my neck to this day...dear old dad had to stick me in front of the boob tube cheering on the Cardiac Cards as a youngster. Hook line and sinker.

I curse that they were that good, if I'm not mistaken there was a year when the entire Card's offensive line were in the ProBowl...and look at us know:p

I wonder what Grimm was up to that year?:D

The Cardiac Cards had 3 offensive linemen selected to the pro bowl 4 years in a row 1975-1978! 1975 eight sacks in 355 pass attempts. A 1.7% sack rate.

I was just wondering today why we never nicknamed Clark Haggans, Festus.

I guess most posters are too young to remember Gunsmoke.

But there will never be a nickname for a player as awesome as Double Duece.

Easy solution. Start Kolb in the 1st half & Skelton in the 2nd. :)

It will be a very interesting camp and pre season as Skelton goes after the starters job. I think he can win it with half a season behind him. His skill level has improved and he has a good fell for Fitz. Add the new O-line and Floyed plus a healthy Williams. IT can be fun.

I keep wondering this too. Skelton's never really had an offseason with coaches attention and yet on the field he's improved every year. I mean visible maturity and improvement in games.

Everyone should be cautious though, because what we consider improvement may not look that way to a coach. Even if he completes the pass, when they watch coaches film they may see something completely different: bad feet, terrible hip rotation, too stiff, doesn't move or slide well in the pocket. Just as an example.

Those things are correctable in my opinion, but his accuracy bothers me (although that can obviously be attributed to his feet and hip rotation). He even said last week his feet were horrible and that he had developed bad habits with his feet because he was allowed to slide after completing passes. That's not his fault, it's a lack of coaching (until now hopefully).

His hip rotation is bad though. It's all arm throws (he has a stronger arm than people realize, even though most people think he has a rocket as it is). They had a clip last year showing "big Ben" throwing on a bad ankle, like he couldn't even move or plant, and he still swiveled his hips in throws better than Skelton. That's a bigger problem than people realize.

I like the analysis. It also gives me even more confidence that Double Duece will become a much better game day QB. He hasn't had any real top level coaching so he should be easier to change, they don't have to coach the Philadelphia out of him, and he has the arm to be able to throw under pressure when there's no chance to rotate the hips or have proper footwork because DeMarcus Ware is getting ready to take his head off. Oh wait they can't do that any more. Ok when DeMarcus Ware is about to pull his flag.
