Why would you draft Newman or Trufant?

There is no point of drafting a cornback first round, because the fact that we have no pass rush.....McNabb, Gannon....Hell even shane Matthews pick our CB's apart because we have no pass rush...that's why if we draft suggs, we would atleast have some pressure on the QB....A rookie CB with no pass rush could hurt us even more than what we have out there now....Does anyone else agree?

I agree completely. I think people are underestimating Barrett's ability. Given a solid pass rush our CB's would look a lot better. D-Line needs to be the 1st priority.

Now that the jets have traded down from 4 and we are talking with the saints, I think it would be wise to not take Trufant and trade down. WE could take a DE/DT combo, DE/WR, maybe even DE/Woolfolk. I would not do the last and I do not know who we would even take at 17 and 18. If we trade down I think we go all defense with the 1st 3 picks. 17, 18, and 37. After that we can nab a WR in the 3rd round

Ohh yeah and if we get a conditional pick in the 2nd, there is our 2 2nd rounders. Thus all thsoe Willis McGahee fans will be going wild. I am one of them. Too bad he wont make it out of the 1st.

This (Trade down with 'Aints) is an awful line of thinking that will not make this team better.

There are, maximum, 15 true blue-chip prospects in this draft. 15 players that rate a #1 grade. Some of you are saying that we should trade completely out of that class. Would you trade our #6 for two 2nd round draft picks? That's what you're saying we should do.

DO NOT TRADE DOWN FOR 2 FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICKS WITH THE SAINTS. IT WILL BE A DISASTER.

I never use AllCaps. This is how you know I mean business.

And he is faster and stronger than Suggs. He could play DE until he really learns the NFL at CB

If I only had the choice between these two (Newman/Trufant) I would take Newman. He is verstile. Plays WR, CB and KR/PR. He brings the biggest bang for the buck. If he could only rush the QB like Suggs....

Which is totally ignoring the fact that he is small and has a bad shoulder injury that hasn't improved.

He is actually alot like Terrell Buckley....a huge bust.

Uhmmm....no he isn't stronger. Newman's arms are much shorter and he is 5 years older.

I really dont care if he did more reps I would be willing to bet that in an arm wrestling match the 20 year ild Suggs would win!

That drill doesnt test true strength it tests endurance!

I am not so sure I agree with that line of thinking. Although i agree that the Cards need an impact player I am not so sure you cant get what you want at 17, 18, and 37. Thats three of the top 50 picks.

We know there will be some solid DT's at 17, 18 because of the sheer amount of dlineman int he draft. Then what about taking a flyer on Kelly Washington at 18, or if you think he will be there at 37 (which i dont).

Then you can turn around and take anotherd-lineman @37. This is pretty much the philosophy that NE used to win the super bowl-stock pile picks-grab lot sof value through FA, and it seemed to work for them.

I am not advocating doing this, just saying there is a very legitimate arguement for moving down and aquiring picks.

I am not big n workouts either. I thinmthe 40 times Suggs run mean nothing. But as a defensive lineman you need some leverage and strength and this is somethng that would easily raise my eyebrows if I were a GM. It shows that Suggs perhaps got most of his sacks by be quicker than the lineman and in the NFL, I am not so sure he can always do that.

We will see....

Playing the role of devil's advocate

You take Trufant or Newman because the Cards have never had to great CB's at the same time on their team.

The drop off in talent at this position after these two is huge.

There is plenty of pass rushers that can be had in rds 2 thru 4.

This team never does well when drafting for need in the 1st rd.

Our secondary could be awesome and allow the Cards to blitz like the Eagles.

We need a punt returner as well.

Every team says you can't have enough CB's and after Starks and Barrett we really don't have much talent.

Since Suggs wouldn't be an every down player and a 3rd CB gets a ton of playing time anyways then a player at this position may have a bigger impact this year.

Barrett and to a degree Starks haven't proven to be the answers at this position.

That's why I won't go ballistic if the Cards draft one of these two players. It's also why the team is considering drafting one of them.
