The soccer postseason was abbreviated for both Wichita Falls ISD girls teams Friday.
Legacy and Memorial each suffered shutout losses in the bi-district round of its respective division, marking the first time since 2005 a WFISD girls soccer team hasn’t advanced past the first round of the playoffs.
It’s the first time since 2013 that a WFISD girls soccer team didn’t win a playoff game, but this was after Rider and Wichita Falls High each received first-round byes.
Legacy suffered a 1-0 loss to Amarillo Tascosa in a Region I-5A Division I bi-district match at Memorial Stadium. Tascosa scored the match’s lone goal with 12:18 remaining in the second half. Legacy finishes its inaugural season with an 11-8-5 record.
Meanwhile in Lubbock, Memorial surrendered a pair of corner kicks to Lubbock-Cooper, dropping its Region I-5A Division II bi-district match to the Lady Pirates, 2-0. Memorial’s first season ended with a 14-4-2 mark that included a district title.
Amarillo Caprock scored on a header off a free kick with 18:45 remaining in the match, lifting the Longhorns past Legacy, 3-2, in a Region I-5A Division I bi-district matchup Friday at Memorial Stadium.
Legacy was able to answer Caprock’s first two goals in the first half, including a cross by Chris Rios and a penalty kick by Ricardo Juarez.
But the Leopards (13-6-2) couldn’t find the equalizer in the second half despite having the wind at their back.
