Wild Card Scenario

It's Seth from "'The Cardinal's' Nest" website. I know I have met some of you at various road games over the years, and have finally found my way onto this site. Every year, usually around Thanksgiving, I have to search through the tie-breaker possibilities to see if we even have a chance. Well, it's almost Christmas and we are still very much alive for the post-season, division hopes stronger than the wild-card. However, if my calculations are correct, the wild-card may not be as bleak as I've seen posted here. A Panthers' victory doesn't necessarily eliminate us from wild-card contention. If more than two teams from different divisions finish at 7-9, the head-to-head rule only applies if one team swept or was swept by all others. Therefore, if say the Cowboys, Panthers, and Cardinals all go 7-9, it would come down to strength of victory, in which we currently hold a slim lead (thank you, Miami!). Nothing official, but here is what I've come up with after literally spending hours analyzing all possibilities.

Arizona stays alive if:

1.) Cardinals beat Seahawks AND

2a.) Rams lose to Eagles OR

2b.) Panthers AND Saints both lose OR

2c.) Panthers OR Saints lose, AND Cowboys and/or Bears win

I like the idea of running the table with the Rams & Haks losing out - not too much of a pipe dream. 7-9 division winner! that would be something

Playoffs

Regarding the Rams, I won tickets to their finale against the Jets. If that game is still meaningful to us, I'll be there to cheer alongside the J-E-T-S fans with a sign "How the West Was Lost." Maybe I'll even put together a "Bidwill" jersey just to irritate the locals.

Not too bleak. Obviously if the Cards win the division, they have a MUCH better shot at advancing to the 2nd round. I'm pumped up!

I still think it would be absolutely awesome if we make it into the playoffs at 7-9, then run the table and win it all. It would be incredible. The populous in Phoenix wouldn't know what to do, barely anyone would celebrate except us 25,000 die-hards... it'd be one of the weirdest things in all of sports.

...and I'd love to see it. Will it happen? Oh, probably not, but damn it would make an interesting month

Not trying to bust your balls, but are kidding me? You seen what happened in 98 when we went to playoffs and all the "supposed" life long Cards fans came out the woodwork?

I know what I would settle for. This weekend plays out in our favor. The Arizona community recognizes that this team is not the same old cardinals as we just did to Seattle what we did to St. Louis. They show up to support the Cardinals and don't care if the other 2 teams win or lose. Just to show this team that they realize now that it has turned a corner. TV shows the game because it has playoff reprocussions. With all the new fans it's not blacked out. The players show the fans their appreciation during the game. Of course they kick some Buc backside.
It won't really matter if the rams or seahawks win or lose. This would be the stuff that a movie is based on.

And next year...............

I'll predict that a home playoff game will not sell out unless it's against the Packers or perhaps Minnesota, in which case it will effectively be a road game for the Cardinals.

I would not be so sure of that. The last game of the 1998 season against the Chargers was a sellout, and it sold out mostly in the last week before the game. And it was all Cardinal Red.
