Will Cards now get first choice of any QB in draft?

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter
Chiefs traded second-round pick, the second pick in the second round, to SF. Niners also got another conditional mid-round pick in 2014
for qb Alex Smith.
Scott Wright ‏@DraftCountdown
Now that the #Chiefs are out of the mix for West Virginia QB Geno Smith where does he land? #Jaguars? #Raiders? #Cardinals? #Bills?

The Cards may get first crack at any qb on the board. The problem is if any are worth the #7 pick??

In my opinion no QB is worthy of the #7. Go Oline with first pick. With the amount of picks the '9ers have they could package a deal with the Jets and get Revis or get another pick in the 1st round.

If BA likes Geno Smith then he's ours....if not it's maybe a QB later.

If Geno makes BA happy then I'm in.

I think we'll have a crack at any QB available. There's a chance one of these other teams pulls the trigger, but I don't see it happening.

I think Barkley will fight his way into the discussion of being the #1 or #2 QB taken, but as I've said in other threads, I hope we sit at #7 and take Geno Smith.

You honestly think BA trusts Kolb (mr injured) or the other clowns we have.

Cards take Geno if he's there.

I expect the Bills to trade up to the Raiders slot and take him ahead of us.

Agree, I think someone will take him before we pick.

Oh goodie - just like having my first pick of tapioca, Jello or boiled apples for dessert.

I would take Eugene, but if the Jets are hungry enough for him do the trade.

If anybody is stupid enough to trade up for Smith, let them. In fact, trade with the Cards.

Wouldn't be surprised if Raiders take him at all.

I think they are a QB needy team that people just aren't talking about.

The Chiefs' decision to trade for Alex Smith makes it very clear that Andy Reid was not high on any QB in this draft. Giving up two 2nd round picks for Alex Smith is a lot to give up when you could have taken your QBOP&F at #1 and held on to two 2nd rounders, this year's (#34) and next year's.

That #34 pick is nearly a low first rounder---plus they would have had the advantage of a 24 hour preparation for the pick knowing what players are still available and you have the second pick on night 2 of the draft.

Reid may not be right---and only time will tell.

Or he just see's a guy that can run his version of the west coast. Something Geno is not suited for most likely.

Yup. And it also means that Reid wasn't willing to wait two weeks for Kevin Kolb who is suited for the WCO...and not have to give up anything to get him.

Sorry, but after putting my complete trust in Michael and Whiz when he brought his staff into U of P Stadium, I will probably never trust another franchise again like I did the Cards at that time.

I whole-heartedly believe that BA's philosophy of teaching proper fundamentals and technique is the way to go, as well as his belief of studying each player to find his best fit for the team. I will wait until he shows that he will do this, and that this is the answer, before I give more than mere agreement.

I like that he is enthused about putting together his dream staff, and that he is excited about enacting his long awaited plan to finally start on building his own team. I have ultimately become a (show me) person after Whiz however, and will more than likely take a wait and see attitude. The Cards have simply burned me too many times for me to blindly believe merely words. Talk is cheap. Actions tell the story.

I am honestly getting a sneaking suspicion we're going to take a QB with our first pick (which won't be at 7). I just keep hearing Arians and Keim talking up Chance and the other lineman and I'm starting to just wonder if its bait for a team behind us in RD1 to trade back to.

I've also gotten the impression that Arians and staff believe they can coach and scheme virtually any QB. Only QB you can't do that with is an injury prone one, which is what we have.

I hope they don't blow this draft by reaching for a mediocre QB. That said, somebody's gotta do it. I guess.

Build the defense and the running game. Spend 2013 beating people up on our way to a .500 record, then address QB next year.

I agree with you dude and I think most people do, but when you hear Arians say we have some talent on this team and that the online isn't broken and--my favorite--that things look sweeter with getting Levi back then it leads me to believe he's not building to win later but to win now and that means we need a QB now.

That wouldn't be so bad.

My fear is that Kolb gets hurt.....those who think he will stay healthy raise your hand.....then if we pass on maybe the only decent QB in the draft (Geno) then we'll suck just like last year.

A veteran QB acquisition might make me feel a tad better.

I fully expect Buffalo or NYJ to trade up in front of us to take a QB. Probably the Jets after they trade Revis to SF for a bounty of draft picks.

Teams always seem to overdraft QBs and with good reason. Hitting big on a QB can set your franchise up for a decade and now with the new rookie scale, drafting a bust isn't going to ruin your cap for years.

We shouldn't let that happen then - we should move up ourselves.
