What I got out of this post, was that in the 2nd round of this draft, the Chiefs will not be in front of us.

2nd Round

33 - Jaguars
34 - Niners
35 - Eagles
36 - Lions
37 - Bengals
38 - Cardinals

If we are looking to get a QB early in round two, the Jags are the only team that will be doing the same.

I actually think the 49ers and Eagles could look to take a QB and keep in mind the Jets and Bills are right behind us and culd move up to grab a QB they like. Barkely and EJ Manuel to the 49ers and Eagles would not shock me in that order.

I just don't understand why people think the consensus #1 QB in this draft is going to drop into the 20s or further. There's some warts on these guys, but Geno will likely go before 15, and I'll guarantee before 20 unless something really really major comes to light in the next few weeks. I'd place an avatar bet on it.

Because that's where the draft gurus {Kiper, McShay & Mayock} are projecting him. All have him as a fringe first-rounder, not an elite top ten prospect.

NFL.com's top four mock drafts have Geno Smith going no later than 7 - to us. Kiper/McShay/Mayock's draft rankings might have him listed as the 20-30th best player available, but like it or not, Quarterbacks go at a premium. Geno's stock has been doing nothing but rising, as well.

It wouldn't surprise me at all either that Barkley went top 10.

IF coach thinks either of these guys is going to be a complete stud, then we have to take him. But if he questions that, and we take someone who isn't and is just plain mediocre at best, we will be stuck with him for years and will never see the sunny side of a playoff game the rest of my life. So I just hope he is right. I can live with not taking a QB, but can't live with taking one that isn't a great one.

I don't get this line of thinking - especially because the alternative is Kevin Kolb, Brian Hoyer, and maybe Drew Stanton or a middle round choice...

For those of you saying we should wait until round 2, don't you think it's awfully likely that we don't give up on a round 2 QB next year either, and then miss out on one of the first round QBs everyone seems to think will be there?

This is a prime spot to take Geno Smith, or Matt Barkley if his stock rises and shoulder heals.

Maybe because some of us don't rate G Smith or Barkley as being definitely better than Kolb, Hoyer or Stanton - at least not safe enough alternatives to warrant a #7 pick.
