I'm wondering if they'll lose all their recruits (what few are left) and if we'll snatch anyone up.

I could see Derrick Williams. Wise coming back makes Momo Jones less likely he seems a bit iffy anyways, he's now decommitted 4 times. If Derrick decommits as expected I think several Pac 10 teams will go after him. He was set to play with Hill before anyways so why not again?

Evan Smith is the ohter recruit left and honestly I don't think he's a Pac 10 player.

I cant imagine UA not going after Williams, assuming he get his release without a Pac-10 stipulation.

He got his release and has the UofA, Memphis and ASU as schools he is looking for. I would love to see Derrick come to the UofA. Miller has shown he can recruit and selling the UofA won't be tough. This would be a big catch. I would rather have Williams and pass on Jones. The Cats can get one of the top point guards to play for them in 2010-11.

I like Williams quite a bit, some guys are tweeners, some guys are combo forwards, he's a combo. The LA Times said that UCLA might get involved with either Williams or Noel Johnson both USC releases. Didn't sound like UCLA has any interest in Momo. The claim is Johnson's release said he couldn't go to another Pac 10 team so I don't know if the Times is wrong about UCLA looking at him, or if USC has simply decided they can't enforce such a restriction given why all these kids are leaving.

If UA ends up with Williams and Jones they will arguably have the #1 class in the conference which is amazing on such short notice. You can argue it's due to USC's collapse, but of course UA had a terrific class before the whole Lute situation collapsed it, so great recovery by UA and Miller.

If you want to give yourself a good hypothetical heart attack, read the leading article at Scout.com's Arizona team site.

It's a "What would have been" had Floyd taken the UA job.

I think Momo would be a nice fit, because Arizona clearly needs players who can score the ball and Momo can do that. The only problem is that adding Momo and Williams means that someone definitely needs to transfer out this year.

Now that isnt a problem for me, but some of these guys need to see the writing on the wall and realize that they are going to be recruited over.

If it were me I would go hard after Williams and stay hot on Momo. UA definitely needs big man help this year and Williams is a very good player.

"I’m becoming more optimistic we could add a fourth and maybe a fifth" recruit for 2009.
-Sean Miller (6/17/2009)

Just wanted to throw this quote in the mix.

That's what I'm assuming that quote meant - getting both would be fantastic.

Thanks for posting the link... I still can't post links yet...

FWIW, the rumor is if USC hires Theus, that Marcus Johnson will return to school(he's in summer school and is still USC eligible) and that Derrick Williams will recommit to USC.

Theus coached Johnson in AAU ball several years ago, and apparently knows Derrick Williams as well. Williams said he signed with USC because of Floyd so when Floyd quit, he wanted out.

He named Memphis, ASU and UA as teams he was interested in.

Now that USC has hired a stiff like O'Neill, I'm sure some of the players who have committed are going to want out.

They only have one recruit left in 09, Evan Smith. Gary Franklin from Mater Dei supposedly decommitted today.

I assume Polee is still committed because USC made KO promise to keep the staff intact and that includes Polee's dad.

Williams appears to have dropped ASU and is focusing on UA and Memphis. If zagsblog is correct and he announces tomorrow I'm guessing it's Memphis as he hasn't officially visited Tucson yet. KO is also trying to get him to re-consider which would be very difficult considering how close those around him are to certain people who loathe O'Neill. Momo announces Monday and AZ people are confident but so too are those around Gainesville.

Pastner is doing a fine job thus far, nice to have him in the bullpen should Miller decide to go back East.
