Arizona Cardinals 2013 Statistical Predictions: Will TE Rob Housler Finally Have Break-Out Year?

Drafted in Round 3 of the 2011 NFL draft, Housler was largely under-utilized by former Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt. After missing all of November his rookie season due to a hamstring injury, Housler came back for his sophomore campaign and had 45 receptions for 417 yards (9.27 YPC)--he started nine games and appeared in every game but the regular-season finale.

His combination of speed and explosiveness, along with solid route running, should make him an asset to the offense. Housler was targeted 65 times in 2012, but only 48 of those were deemed catchable. His 45 receptions and three drops add up to a drop rate of 6.25 percent, per ProFootballFocus.

Yeah he's way behind schedule... Anyone not notice the wildly inaccurate scuds lobbed his way? Guy is a pro bowler with a decent qb.

I definitely think he has potential and Arians loves TEs so we'll see....

Nope.

Horrible blocker, at the point to where it is a gross liability, and does not have good hands.

For all the blame laid on the QB, Housler doesn't do much to help the QB out either.

If Airans hates the fact a fullback tips off a running play, then why would he put out a player that you know is going to go out for a pass every time ?

Just put another WR out there.

45 Receptions for a TE is actually very good in a Whiz run offense and considering how pitiful our QB's have been.

I expect a Big year for Housler, around 70 receptions with a 12 ypc avg. Thing is we have a lot greedy hands and only one ball so I don't expect anyone not named Fitz to approach 100 receptions.

That's what made the 2005 season so amazing. Both Boldin and Fitzgerald had over 100 receptions. The RBs combined for 96 more. With Josh McCown starting almost half the games.

I'm not sure where this comes from. According to FO his catch rate is right there with Gronk, Olsen, Davis, & Gresham.

If he can't do it this year he won't. But everything is lined up for him with Arians, Palmer, and his ability. Well see and well know early...

I don't think Housler will ever be great. I do think he can be solid.

What I was truely hopeing was that we would of drafted a te early to start and Housler would of been the #2 guy.

Palmer should make this Houslers best year.

Can't say I'm familiar with BA's offensive system. But according to many on this board he uses a lot of 2 TE sets and many were pushing for multiple TE selections in mock drafts. If that is the case I would expect Housler to have a good year but with Fitz, Floyd, Roberts and the ground game Housler's opportunities may be limited unless he becomes the next Tony Gonzalez.

Those stats are bogus. Not calling out the whole site but their drops stat is very suspect.

Every year that footballoutsiders.com has been around I have had their stats brought into conversations about receivers and I must say their criteria for a "drop" is highly suspect.

It was the #1 reason for the arguement FOR Early Doucet through the years, and where did Early Doucet sign in the offseason again.

All I know when I think about Rob Housler the first things that come to mind are missed blocks, dropped passes, and "potential".

I am in the belief our TE situation is not good, bordering on dire

I just don't recall seeing that many drops, just a bunch of very bad passes to him.

I've seen bad passes & many drops from Housler since his arrival. As a matter of fact his hands were suspect coming out in the draft.

Fair enough. We will find out this.year because Arians didn't draft the hype machine and the QB position is greatly improved.

He is running out of excuses

The guy can get open and has some moves after he catches the ball. I too recall some drops when wide open. Can't block worth a lick. Floyd is a much better blocker.

Yeah, will be interesting to see how Housler is used as Arians made a comment about viewing him as a receiver coming out in the draft. Given that, does Housler fit the role of BAs preferred TE style?

Besides injury, theres not one single excuse as to why RH whouldnt be one of the most productive (if not the most..) TEs in the NFL this year.

Hes the biggest mismatch we have on the roster and one of the most athletic TEs in the league.

BA loves TEs to a the degree that Whiz hated TEs. Which means alot.

We have a QB

He + Ryan can be on the same plane back to bumsville at the end of the year if he somehow doesnt produce.

Too much of a one-trick pony. I get the idea he can catch passes and is difficult to tackle. But he is really bad at blocking. BA was saying he wanted his TE to be able to play fullback, and not dictate what they are going to run/pass just by being out on the field. I am not sure Housler can block well enough to be on their during running plays.

Right now we have no other options, but I see him gone in year two of the Keim/Arians re-build.
