Housler didn't get many targets until Kolb went out last year. They almost doubled with Skelton and Lindley. (stats taken from box scores on profootball-reference.com)

I would think that it was a result of the Cards going to shorter passes with those two but the # of deep targets to Housler also went up. Although there still weren't very many.

Yup, and I am sure they are going to show his drops in a highlight video.

:trout:

Yeah they never showed Earlys fall down against the bungles either;)

Like I said cardncubfan can paint the pic anyway he wants, but dropping 1 out of every 15 passes isn't all that good.

Those stats are bogus. Not calling out the whole site but their drops stat is very suspect.

Every year that footballoutsiders.com has been around I have had their stats brought into conversations about receivers and I must say their criteria for a "drop" is highly suspect.

It was the #1 reason for the arguement FOR Early Doucet through the years, and where did Early Doucet sign in the offseason again.

All I know when I think about Rob Housler the first things that come to mind are missed blocks, dropped passes, and "potential".

I am in the belief our TE situation is not good, bordering on dire

He's a terrible blocker I agree. The drops for me standout because he has had so many times in the 2 years where he appears to be wide open and Kolb or Skelton make a bad throw and miss him. So when they do make a good throw and he drops it, you remember it, at least I do.

I think he was a very raw kid who got by on natural ability in college, there are times when you can tell he didn't run the route the QB(often Kolb) wanted him to. I think he got better at that and I'm really hoping we finally have a QB who can throw a seam route to save his life.

After watching the highlights reel one thing you can give him credit for is the yards after the catch seems to be good. He also doesn't go down with the initial hit.

+1

Guy is a monster with the ball in his hands, no doubt.

A real QB. Check

A HC/OC who uses TEs.Check

A great athlete. Check.

Looks good to me.

Agreed. The excuses should all be gone now and we should be able to see exactly what we have in Housler. He will be given every opportunity to be successful now and it is up to him to do something with it.

Have the Cardinals had an above average tight end since Jay Novacek? None jumps out at me. And no Leonard Pope doesn't count!

Ben Patrick.

Only Cardinal TE to ever score a TD in a Super Bowl. Only Cardinal TE to ever make a two point conversion in an NFC Championship game. :koolaid:

It really is amazing we had Jackie Smith, JV Cain, we had Awalt and Novacek on the same team, and since then we can't find a TE.

I can't see why they would. Right now he is an athletic option who has shown an inability to make plays in the passing game and is a liability as a blcker in the running game.

That being said, he is a good athlete and he has a competant QB and a coach who values uses the TE. Excuses are now gone for Housler.

He certainly hasn't become the deep threat we were hoping for when the Cards drafted him. Thought he would be great splitting the seams deep if I recall.

Suffice it to say that FootballOutsiders doesn't believe much in Rob Housler: http://www.footballoutsiders.com/four-downs/2013/four-downs-nfc-west-0

He's got to show it now. No more potential talk he has to go out there and make a difference. Palmer is not Kurt Warner but he's MUCH better than Kolb or Skelton. Rob hasn't caught a TD pass yet in the NFL, he could have had several with better throws, but he won't have that excuse this year, Palmer can make throws the previous guys weren't making.

It's put up or shut up time for him it'll be interesting to see how it turns out.

my eyes tell me he does that well, he just drops good passes because he is suprised that the pass didnt go in the stands like the last 10.

he has been open streaking between the hash marks many times in his two years. Thankfully, he was clothed.

Yes it really sucks for those of us who like to evaluate players, schemes, coaches etc. because our QB play has been so atrocious the last 3 years.

It would be interesting to know what Arians and his coaches are doing to try to evaluate players like Housler under those circumstances.

One thing that isn't hard to evaluate is his horrendous blocking. What is really weird is that he blocks well on returns but not on regular plays. Of course any coach that had plays designed where Housler was to make a key block needed his head examined. Yet another reason the offensive coaches are elsewhere.

TEs is actually the position where it usually takes players the longest to mature and Housler was raw when drafted.

I'll give him the benefit doubt until now, but this is the year for him.

How many times were receivers wide open last year and the QB didn't even see them or or know where they were?

Our QB's were so bad it's hard to really get a read on the TE position. Hopefully with CP they will get enough balls thrown their way that they are expecting the ball any time and put in the full effort on each play.
