Very much so. He is the most NFL ready CB IMO. And he can do much more than just cover.

Almost all Miami players are NFL ready...thats why they always seem to go so high in the draft- it's just like Arizona basketball :D. IMO he will be a difference maker on the defensive side of the ball considering how physical he plays.

Yes. He is in the perfect situation as a rookie coming into a team with what should be a great pass rush. Plus Pendy knows how to use a guy and put in the right schemes to make them succeed.

After starting out preferring Rolle over all other prospects and then waivering back and forth between the three corners (because I was nervous about Rolle's quicks in man coverage), I rated Pac Man slightly ahead of Antrel and then (based on local buzz) predicted we'd take Rogers. (Go figure).

That said - and based on Coach Green's comment that he felt Antrel was a perfect match for the Cardinals' defensive system - l'm pumped!

We gotta guy with attitude, who's willing to play tight coverage and is comfortable sticking his nose in there in run support.

We had to have a big time corner opposite Macklin. This pick fills a huge roster need and does so with a blue chip prospect.

The War Room Bio:
Antrel Rolle
CB, Miami (FL)
War Room analysis
Rolle is a big (6-0 5/8, 197), physical corner with fluid movement and great toughness. He works better in tight press vs. off coverage. He is very smart and aware, excelling in zone defense, something that Cardinals coach Dennis Green and defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast covet. Rolle also has good ball skills and is a strong tackler.

PRE-DRAFT ANALYSIS Coverage skills: Is physical. Shows good bump-and-run skills. Can smother receivers at the line. Matches up well against big wide receivers. Is fluid, but lacks elite change-of-direction skills. Has some trouble against small, quick receivers. Grade: 8.6.

Run/pass recognition: Gambles a bit too often. Lacks great route-recognition skills. Gets caught peeking at the quarterback. Occasionally bites on pump fakes. Grade: 8.0.

Closing speed: Has adequate speed, but shows a decent second gear when chasing down the pass. Grade: 8.0.

Ball skills: Shows decent ball skills. Has good height, reach and leaping ability. Grade: 8.5.

Run support: Has good bulk and strength. Is physical and aggressive. Fills hard and is a solid tackler. Shows good instincts and closing burst when blitzing. Grade: 8.8.

Bottom line: Rolle is a big, physical corner with fluid movement and great toughness. He is most effective in tight press coverage. He would fit best with a team that emphasizes man-to-man coverage. Rolle was considered the best cornerback in December and slipped to No. 2 behind West Virginia's Adam Jones in January. He may now slip behind Auburn's Carlos Rogers. That said, Rolle can shine in the NFL and will be a great value pick in the early-to-mid first round.

Dan Pompei analysis
This is the best value pick of the draft through eight selections. Seeing the top three running backs were off the board, this was a no-brainer pick for the Cardinals, who had a huge hole at the corner position.

Pre-draft analysis: A tone-setting player who can be among the NFL's most physical cornerbacks. Is a killer against the run. Is a strong and tough, solid tackler and explosive hitter. Gets a nice jam on receivers. Can get off a block. Shows nice burst out of his breaks. Has a good body for the position. Competes hard. Good on the blitz. Isn't a burner, but is fast enough. Is not the most fluid player. Receivers don't run by him. Occasionally will be suckered by a pump fake. Is aware in coverage as a rule. Has some ball skills. Would be ideal in a cover-2 scheme. Also could be a safety. No. 1 on Pompei's CB rankings

Correspondent Analysis
Rolle fills two needs for the Cardinals: a starting left corner and a punt returner. He's big and physical and should mesh well with a secondary that includes two physical safeties in Adrian Wilson and Robert Griffith. Rolle doesn't have great speed, but the Cardinals love his toughness and cover ability.

"..and in this corner.."

I don't think they will use Rolle as a punt returner, will they? We couldn't take a Jason Sehorn happening to us.. :hulk:

He is still a rookie and will make rookie mistakes his first year. It usually takes a couple of years to make yourself known unless you are a Deion Sanders. Do not expect any rookie DB to go out and be all pro. He has a lot to learn including the moves of guys like Torre Holt. As Holt and the other analyist said there are no longer any such thing as a "shutdown corner". That died with the rules changes and actually with the evolving offensive strategies.
