This is an interesting scenario to ponder...

The Patriots, sitting at #7, and having forfeited theit own first round pick (#31), might be more than willing to trade down to add another draft pick, something they have a penchant for doing, and an incentive for doing (they don't like dishing out top 10 bucks to a rookie).

Thus, if the Cardinals offered the #16 and #81 picks...the Patriots might be tempted to take that deal, whether the trade chart validates it as equal value or not.

Why would the Cardinals want to make such a trade? His name? OLB/DE Vernon Gholston of Ohio St. At 6-4, 260, with his combination of size, strength and edge quickness, the Cardinals could find a perfect fit for their defense.

The OLB/DE talent at #16 (Harvey, Campbell, Merling, etc.) can't even come close to matching Gholston's.

In round two, depending on what the Cards have done in free agency, they could either tab a CB or a RB...and good ones at both positions should be there.

Yes, they'd be losing their third rounder...but, they gave a 4th for Branch...giving up a 3rd for Gholston would be just fine as far as I am concerned.

What may make it even easier for the Pats to trade down is that they want a CB or an ILB...and at #16 they could still have their pick of Antoine Cason, Brandon Flowers, or Antonio Rodgers-Cromartie...or go with the guy I think they would hop all over: LB Dan Connor of Penn. St.

I'd be down with that. They might also have a shot at McFadden there.

Problem is, I don't see the Pats doing it.

Who needs 3rd rounders anyway? Not Graves.

Highly doubtfull the Pats do it. They do like to trade but they dont make trades just for the heck of it, they at least get equal value or greater value for their trades. Plus it isnt like they dont have draft picks, they already have two 3rd rounders, 4 picks in the top 100. Would I do it, maybe, would the Pats do it ,I think I can say with a certianty the Pats wouldnt.

If the Cardinals fleece the Patriots in a trade, then the temperature in Hell needs to be checked, look out for flying pigs and we should all prepare for the apacolypse.

The only reason to make this call would be to finally witness the sound of Bill Belicheck laughing.

Didn't the Cards get a 3rd rounder from NE for Starks? Maybe Graves has Pioli's number when it comes to making trades :biglaugh:.

I would like to see a trade up in round 2 again if a guy like Cromartie or Groves is sitting there early in the round.Who knows, Dan Connor may slide into round 2 and be a trade up consideration.

I just hope we draft well, I dont care how it is done. One guy did not pan out last year, the rest did, I am semi confident.

Pioli left the Pats (for Atlanta, I think) and giving up a #16 and #81 and having to pay top ten money for anything other than a QBOF is sheer insanity, given that 50% of all picks will be busts.

I know a lot of you choose to believe otherwise, but the Cardinals FO people are not stupid enough to do that. Of course Belicheat would jump all over that one. I would too, if I called the shots for the Patriots.

That's my opinion.

The way this draft is shaping up, if the Cards sit still at #16, the best talent will be at CB and RB. This is why is is essential the Cards re-sign Calvin Pace.

That opinion has to be in a vast minority. The talent level at 7 is much greater than what's around at 16. Wasn't AP the 7th pick last year? I never knew Pioli left.

NO WAY!

I like the fact we are not picking in the top 10 for a change. I a tired of getting players that demand top dollar.

At least at 16 we can get a good player for a good price.

??? Why ???

At the right price, yes. But Pace is not a guy to give a blockbuster deal to. He has only had one solid season, and it was during his contract year.

I dunno. I wouldn't get into a huge bidding war for him. It would be a waste of money.

That got me thinking, how will our annual first round draft pick hold out this year? You would think #16 would be pretty easy to get into camp on time. But, wasn't Beason the last guy to sign last year?

Pioli is still in New England. It was Dimistroff, the head of scouting and #2 in their Front Office behind Pioli that left for the Falcons.

Thank you. Wasn't sure I had it right. Obviously, I didn't.

Johnson and Pace both held out. Somehow, I think that we'll find a way to get a rookie holdout again. I'm hoping it just won't be as extensive as it has been the past three seasons.

We know that Buster Davis didn't pan out, but Alan Branch didn't do anything last season and Levi Brown (walking softly here...) had the normal ups and downs as a rookie. Considering that our first day was kind of a wash, I'm not sure where the confidence comes from.

I so hope you are right, because I would LOVE the Cards to make that trade. I agree with most of the above posters, however, and don't think the Pats would go for it.

I would HATE a trade into the top 10, and don't think the Cards would remotely consider it. It's one thing to trade up three spots in rd 2, another to triple your financial risk in rd. 1. Besides, we somehow managed to have cap issues this year.
