What i'm talking about is the fact that you two will meet in the second round, anything can happen but if I were a betting man i'd say it's a safe prediction. It doesn't matter to the Mavericks because if we maintain the top seed, we will have HCA throughout the playoffs and it becomes irrelevant who has the better record between the Suns and Spurs.

We aren't going to avoid both of you but it's nice to know that the winner of that matchup will have been through complete hell before advancing to the WCF. I'm actually uncertain who we are likely to face in the second round though, Utah or Housten.

With only a game lead on Utah, it is not a sure thing that the Spurs will beat them out now that Tony Parker is banged up.

The Mavs haven't locked up home court advantage yet. There's still plenty of games to go and every team is one injury away from taking a serious nosedive. We've seen what happens in PHX with Nash out, and the same would happen to the competition if Dirk, Boozer, Duncan, Kobe, or Tracy go down.

Will the Mavs be the #1 seed? Maybe, maybe not.

My thoughts: The Suns are banged up right now. For us to make any run at the championship will require a rested Nash, Marion, Bell, Amare, Kurt, and Leandro. Diaw would help, but he really hasn't lived up to his new contract the way Leandro has- so we shouldn't count on him. I hope Mike takes this into consideration and starts to cut their playing time as the season wraps up so they can be healthy for the play-offs. I'd take a few loses and the 3rd seed if we can expect a rested and healthy Suns team.

I think the Suns need everybody healthy. Diaw has not been as big an impact as expected, but the Suns offense runs more smoothly when he's not hurt.

i think this thread deserves a bump after some of the recent events. only a 3 game lead now, and san antonio is rolling

You mean the recent events that there has been a one-game change over the past ten? The Spurs screwed up by losing to Boston (at home) and Milwaukee in their last ten. Otherwise I would be more worried. The Suns have a tougher upcoming schedule to be sure, but SA also has to play some playoff fringe teams as well as Phx and at Dallas. It will be tight, but so what? You still have to win on the road to win in the playoffs. A three seed wouldn't bother me too much. If we can't beat the Spurs - we don't deserve to advance. Simple as that. Plus, if the Spurs want to make the #2 seed, they will need to play their stars heavy minutes (same with the Suns). Fine by me. It's not like they are going to coast into the second seed.

The problem is how the spurs are playing, they blew out the last opponent by 40 freakin' points and almost another 40 by blowing out GSW by 37.

If I was dallas I would be really worried right now because this is the GSW that was trying to beat dallas by 40 not too long ago.

I think 2 ridiculous good games can attest that the spurs are not old enough yet and are not done making a run at a trophy.

It is wonderful this is all happening while the suns are deciding to half sleep on the court the last part of the season.

Some on this board buried the Spurs prematurely, but the biggest problem for the Suns right now isn't San Antonio or Dallas. It's themselves. If they play well, anything can happen, but if not, it really doesn't matter what the seeding is.

welll we have one game againts the top 4 seeds, dallas- san antonio, and utah. if we beat 2of 3 of those teams- more importantly San Antonio we may hold on to the 2nd seed.

the suns play is somewhat alarming considering their record before march.

at this point it really doesn't matter where the mavs, suns, spurs, jazz finish. although with a 6.5 game lead, it would take a major collapse by dallas to lose the top seed. Interesting enough, the mavs may have a chance to go for their 4th double digit win-streak against the suns. I think all 4 teams would give each other a fight till the death in the playoffs. I know a spurs/mavs series would probably mean 7 games. I don't know why people are just assuming a dallas/phoenix WCF is inevitable. Houston is another team that won't go down easy.

I would say i would rather see utah in the second round though. that s.a./dallas rivalry is too intense for a 2nd round matchup.
