In addition to getting knocked out of action three seasons in a row Kolb gets worse the more he plays. Do you think Arians and his guys will not notice or overlook that? Sure will be an interesting 10 days.

Yep. Would much rather draft a QB in the first 3 rounds and see what he can do. We know what KK can do.

Lest we forget that last year keeping Blok kept us from making a legit run at Manning. Doing it again this year would be pure folly. The Cards have paid the guy $20+MM and gotten next to nothing in return. And somehow we're still debating his value even on a reduced contract. It just doesn't compute to me and the Cards shouldn't allow this anchor to hold the roster hostage any longer. In fact, Blok should leave and put all that money back in the bank on his way out of town.

yea

and DA and Hall were better than Leinart too! get a grip- Levi is a keeper by this real coach- and Skelton is evaluated with a chance to stay- and that means chance to start- let us see what he does with it!

I hope we cut him but I think the owner sort of said he was leaning towards keeping him with some of his recent comments. Not in those words however. CUT HIM>

Kolb is toast, as I believe that the Cards are going to cut bait on his contract. Stanton is not better, nor is Skelton, nor is Hoyer, however all three are cheaper.

Unless he agrees to a re-structure on Cards terms, which I think is unlikely,

I think he will be cut. I don't see the Cardinals wanting to pay him more than $6.5 millions (the cost of cutting him), and I don't see Kolb accepting $6.5 million. So, IMO, he's gone.

Right now I think it's still up in the air.

One thing is for sure, Kevin Kolb won't make $11-million dollars elsewhere and the Cardinals won't pay him that. The question is whether the Cardinals want him back at a reduced amount or whether they just cut him outright and I frankly don't know what will happen. Where is the option for maybe?

As of last Friday, Kolb and the Cards FO have not spoken.

If they haven't asked for a restructure by now, then its pretty clear as of this past Friday that they are planning to cut the guy.

They've already paid Kolb the $6.5M, they just haven't accounted for it under the salary cap (yet).

I see it differently. I see BA and TM keeping as many QB options open as possible, and choosing from the following "Chinese Food Menu":

Column A - The Vet (Kolb with reworked contract)

Column B - The New Guy (Stanton)

Column C - The Almost New Guy (Hoyer)

Column D- The Rook (probably in the mid-late rounds - either Manuel, Jones or Scott).

And it costs practically nothing to hang onto Column E (Lindley) and they say Skelton has reworked his throwing motion.

The coaching staff can then look at all 4 -6 QB's up close & personal and whittle it down to the 3 they want to keep and eventually the dude they want to go to war with.

I'm not sure Kolb survives the physical toll, but I think they give him a legitimate shot at the job.

Is the 6.5M the average amount of the signing bonus per year for the life of the contract? How many more years are they on the hook if they keep him this season?

Nah. $10M signing bonus pro-rated over the first five years; that's $2M per year, of which 2 years have already been accounted for. Means that we're on the hook for the signing bonus for 3 more seasons including 2013.

So if he's cut next season they still must account for 4-4.5M on the CAP?

2-2.5M the following?

So if they keep him they'd just re-work the base salary mtl, correct?

Pretty much. His salaries skyrocketed the last four seasons of the deal. He's due a Roster Bonus in the next 10 days or so of $2M, which will ensure that he's here in 2013, regardless of his salary.

The Cards--if they're interested in retaining Kolb--will only be looking to reduce his salary in-season, which only affects his current year salary cap number.

Looking to reduce the salary for each yr. remaining on the deal which is three yrs. , correct? What are his base (in-season) salaries for the next three yrs?

I doubt that they're going to ask him to reduce his salary for 2014 and 2015; that would needlessly complicate the re-negotiation. If Kolb plays well in 2013, we'll be happy to pay him the $10M he's slated for in 2014. If Kolb gets hurt or continues to play (below) average football, he'll be gone in 2014, regardless.

If the Cards FO is working at all on Kolb's contract, they're working to halve or more his 2013 compensation.

If he's slated for 10M salary next yr. he couldn't be in the teams long term interest at this point. Even if he did decently this yr. I couldn't see them keeping him at that amount.

I dunno. $10M per season is pretty much the going rate for veteran starting quarterbacks on their second contract or more.

By "play well," I don't mean the Kevin Kolb we've seen for two seasons. I mean the Kevin Kolb we were expecting to get when we traded for him. If Kolb's 2013 looks like this:

14 games
62.3% completions
27 TDs
14 INTs
3217 yards

the Cards 2013 could be 8-8 or 9-7 and we wouldn't be in the position to draft a Franchise quarterback anyway. If Kolb played like that (and there are a few people here who may think he's still capable of that--desertdawg and AZ's Finest and maybe TJ), while there would still be some Kolb haters here, I think we'd happily pay the $10M to see if he could replicate on those numbers and build on them.

Keep in mind that we paid Derek Anderson like $6-8M for his season here.
