Madden and EA are crap. Eliminate the competition, then jack the price back up. Last year's Madden was 29.99. This years? 49.99? RIP ESPN Football, the only football game worth playing, and only 20 bucks...

It was the NFL that eliminated competition in the market by putting their rights up for bidding ... not EA.

Still I agree with you that I wish they would have kept them both around (even though they both did have their flaws)

Sounds like good business, to me.

Personally, I prefer the EA game play to ESPN.

Good for EA, bad for the consumer. It is patently obvious that EA changed their pricing last year because they feared that ESPN NFL 2k5 would gain a larger share of the market. No ESPN, the prices go up. Continue celebrating this Madden fans, and they'll keep rehashing the same game over and over again for you, for the low price of 49.99!!!!

Yeah, it's called franchising, a product that's been around for 20 years has the tendency to develop a loyal following. I think the major drop in price shows pretty obviously that they were worried about ESPN.

What is your argument here? That Madden didn't drop their prices in response to ESPN football's $20 price point? Yes, they were beating ESPN in sales, but let's face it, most reviewers had the 2004 versions of both games rated equally, or ESPN slightly better. The major problem with Madden is the fact that they have been around forever. Because of this, many of their fans buy the game no matter how good it is, whether there are significant changes or not. I admit, I am probably biased. I was a Madden fan for years, and then got introduced to the NFL 2k series, which became ESPN football. After playing 2k, I was hooked. The gameplay was far superior, and you didn't have to deal with Madden's confusing interface and the "players on ice skates" effect that has always plagued Madden. Not only did I enjoy ESPN's gameplay better, but it was less than half the price of Madden. I can't wait to see the creativity from the EA designers now that they don't have any competition...

I disagree. I tried ESPN 2k1.. It was ok but madden was still better. The day ESPN 2k5 came out i went out and bought it. I played it for two weeks.. the franchise mode was horrible and the running game was almost as bad. I picked up madden the day it came out and ESPN has collected dust ever since.

The gameplay is better on 2K5, but the Franchise and other features come no where near. I am really big on Fantasy Drafts and in 2K the picks went in the same order every time (Manning 1, Brady 2, etc.) so I pretty much ended up with the same guys.

I agree. After playing NFL2k5, it's hard to go back and play Madden. It feels like your players are stuck in concrete.

Madden's got decent franchise stuff, I agree. I'm in year 4 of my NFL2k5 franchise, and it has a few bugs, but overall it's still very very playable and to be honest is just as fun as Madden's franchise mode to me.

Wow this passing cone is going to take alot of getting used to. Warner has a huge cone compared to McCown, but I still like McCown because of his ability to run. Lots of practicing for now.

They have a ton (at least in Denver).

The passing is a lot harder this year. And they switched the buttons on defense--the "switch player" button and the "sprint" button have been swapped. Makes sense, except that now my fingers don't do what I want them to.

I've played a couple of games against the computer, 1 non-ranked game and 1 ranked game and Rolle has had at least one pick in all of them.

I'm not really digging the game this year.

Guess I just miss NFL2k5. :(

Agreed. NFL2K franchise looked much better and to me, didn't have as many quirks. If I sack the QB one more time only to have the ball fall out of his hands and then the refs blow the play dead as an incomplete pass I'm going to lose it.

My main gripe is the graphics though. Last years NFL2k kicks the crap out of this years Madden....that's just wrong.

I'm playing that too!

So far I don't see much point in it. I made myself as a QB, got drafted the Cowboys, then simmed a couple weeks, played about 3 practices and I didn't go up or down.

But they must play some factor since you get graded on them (on your website) . My usual pattern though was D, D, A, D, D, B, A. So I averaged out at about a D+ and didn't go up nor down.

But so far this Superstar mode is perfect for those Madden/Sims fans.

When you played did you start you or did you let the higher rated QB start? I let Carr start the first year, but after one year of that, I said screw it I'm starting even if my ranking is lower. The Texans are so freaking boring though.. I wish I was on an NFC team at least. The AFC sucks!
