Ty Willingham is out at Notre Dame - he and Green have a long history together, and Alex Wood doesn't seem to be working out.

While I can't be sure as to who will be the OC next year, it is clear that Alex Wood ain't the guy.

Now that I would love. That way when Green gets himself fired, we can just promote Willingham.

I'm a huge Willingham fan.

FYI, Stanford fired Buddy Teevens, among the local rumored candidates are Willingham(left Stanford for Notre Dame) and Cal's Jeff Tedford.

The interest there is Rodgers has said all along he's staying at Cal and loves coach Tedford, the implication being, if Tedford leaves, he's going pro. So if Tedford WAS to go to Stanford, odds are Aaron Rodgers would be in the draft.

Was wondering if Stanford would try to get Willingham back. Also heard they were inquiring about Norm Chow.

Why would Telford move across the Bay after kicking Stanford's butt?

why would tedford go from cal to stanford? seems a lateral move. also, i'd think it'd be a bit more difficult getting student-athletes in at stanford compared to cal (though noting that both are superior academic institutions).

Thats what I was thinking too. Personally, I think Tedford is headed for the NFL.

I originally thought Tedford would stay at Cal for another year and then move across the bay and take over the 49ers after Erickson is canned after 2005, where he would draft Aaron Rodgers #1. But with more head coach spots opening up it's going to be tough keeping him in the UC system for another year. His price has gone way, way up.

I doubt Willingham goes back to the Farm after the incident during Stanford's Senior Day a few years back. Word is they're desperate for Norm Chow.

Does Willingham have any experience calling plays? I though he was a RB coach under Denny in Minnesota?

The running backs coach at Stanford from 1989-91 under head coach Dennis Green. And moved with Green to the Minnesota Vikings, where he again coached running backs from 1992-94.

With Kirby Wilson our RB coach right now the front runner for the UNLV head coaching job we may need a new RB's coach soon.

"Coaching candidate

The Las Vegas-Review Journal reports that Cardinals running backs coach Kirby Wilson is a finalist for the head coaching job at UNLV.

Wilson has served as an NFL assistant coach with New England, Washington and Tampa Bay, as well as a collegiate assistant at Southern Illinois, Wyoming, Iowa State and Southern California. He was unavailable for comment."

Willingham wouldn't come to be RB coach - he's already done that for Denny in the 90's.

Did he call his plays at Stanford/Notre Dame?

I believe he did, but I think the timing is way off for him to come to az... with the season already in full swing. I would say if this happened in the offseason, then there would have been a better chance.

ND's whole problem has been their offense.....what makes anyone think this guy would make a good OC?

lack of talent not offensive scheme IMO... when you got an ex QB playing receiver ( holiday ) then you are in trouble.

The same Willingham that made J Jones split carries as well as williams from Memphis? Didn't he transfer to Memphis because he was splitting carries at ND?

they are saying on the radio that Willingham is interested in the Washington job and that hastened his departure.

Don't know, Stanford is still considered the more "elite" job, but that will change if cal keeps winning.

Keep in mind, Cal will lose their top RB, top 2 wr's, most of their OL, several key defensive guys. If Rodgers stays they might be OK, if he leaves, they could be really down next year.

Plus Stanford has 3 touted QB's on their roster.

You mean the fake punt with the huge lead? I'm pretty sure Stanford believes the ND story, that the player did it on his own because of a bad snap, and the fact that Stanford had 10 guys on the line to try and block the punt.

Overall most in the Bay Area hated to see him go and would like him back seeing what's happened under teevens.

Not here, that's for sure, he leaves he's getting a HC job somewhere, NFL or a promotion in college. Too Bad he'd have been great to work with Josh and Navarre this year.

You may have found something here. Let's move Anquan back to QB. I bet he'd do better than McCown, King and Navarre.

Nope, he went to Memphis right out of HS.

These are the 4 guys San Jose Mercury News said as leading candidates to replace Teevens at Stanford.

Potential candidates include Boise State Coach Dan Hawkins, Pittsburgh's Walt Harris, Boise State offensive coordinator Chris Peterson and USC offensive coordinator Norm Chow.
