Would I like Willingham here as offensive coordinator? You bet I would. But I think he wants to run his own show as a head coach.

And Russ, for the record, if I was the Notre Dame president, I would not compromise the standards and I'd settle for 6-5 and 7-4 records from now on.

I'm not saying you should by the way, I feel the same way at Stanford.

The problem is the guys selling out the stadiums don't agree with you, they want to win NC's and are convinced they can if they just hire the right coach, they can't because of the academic requirement.

Stanford fans accept that they will not compete for NC's without dropping their standards, I'm sure some want to, but most don't.

USC has no standards so it's easy for them to rebound with a good coach. :)

College football is a joke.

The players need to be paid "legitimately" and the whole system needs an overhaul.

I'd say about the top 50 to 75 schools should form a paid league and then the rest can have a real College championship and the others a paid league championship.

College basketball is just about as bad.

The NCAA is the single most hypocritical organization on the planet.

I think pro sports should be able to draft kids and let them still go to college. Maybe give them the a certain amount and the contract kicks in when they leave college. That would be great for the NBA in particular when so many high schoolers are being drafted. This way it encourages the kids to get experience and spend more time learning fundamentals before joining your team.

I agree.

The NCAA chooses to just stick it's head in the sand and veto any hint of that but in reality while there isn't a perfect system out there the system is totally disfunctional now.

It absolutely could be improved upon and the kids are getting pickpocketed out of millions that are earned on them.

Then where does Tedford go?

Florida or LSU. It was originally thought that Butch Davis would take over in Florida but now there are reports he wants to take a year off of coaching. I mentioned LSU because I think Nick Saban is going to an NFL team

Why not? He has coaching experience at the NFL level and could be paid more by going to the pros. Also don't rule out ego as a big contributing factor.

IMO if he has the opportunity and is getting paid high enough, he's gone

Maybe Florida will hire ex Spurrier assistant Buddy Teevens :)

I hope Tedford stays at Cal but I'm not stupid and realize he won't for very long.

One more thing. Cal is the #2 college team in the country. I bet they would kick the crap out of both Oklahoma and Auburn.

Yeah man. USC is just going to roll over OU.

I have two words for the Pac 10:

Adrian Peterson

I think it'll be a great game assuming neither team screws it up and doesn't get there.

OU has a great OL, USC is not as unbeatable as they were late last year, very young OL and WR group.

Peterson and Reggie Bush in the same game, fun fun fun!

Too bad Cal can't play Auburn or Texas.

The reason I think the idea of Willingham coming here has merit is because he is a young enough guy to come in and coordinate until Green either gets sick of the job or management gets sick of him. I am with Russ on this one, I have always liked what Willingham brought to the table as far as discipline and leadership. I agree that he is not the recruiter to succeed in the college ranks and that a recruiter is exactly what Notre Dame needs. There are smart athletes out there, Notre Dame just needs to make sure that they are coming to their school. The mytique of Notre Dame has faded because high school kids havent seen them win a bowl game or dominate like they used to. It is hard to sell an old winning tradition to kids who haven't seen it and have grown up in a results driven society.
