Cardinals | Wilson Receives Tender - from www.KFFL.com
Mon, 1 Mar 2004 19:00:44 -0800

Darren Urban, of the East Valley Tribune, reports the Arizona Cardinals tendered restricted free agent S Adrian Wilson at the $1.36 million tender offer. Thus, another team would need to give up a first-round draft choice should they sign him to an offer the Cardinals are not interested in matching.

This is the right thing, IMO...no team's going to give up a 1st for him, and it saves us some dinero.

And if a team does give up a 1st rounder for him, then that just gives us more money for FA's and another pick in the first for such a deep draft.

If another team does try to get Wilson IMO I wouldnt give to much of a fight to keep him.

Yeah, what we need is for Wilson to fly the coop and pull another Chavous on us. For the first time in years I think the coaching system is placing these guys where they deserve to be both in compensation and position played. If Wilson moved on to be a Probowl corner I would have to go postal on somebody.

It's time for this crap to stop.

Verrrry interesting. Call me dumb, but I would like to believe that he was tendered because the Cards want him or he has value. Hopefully he will have a role with the Cards.

$1.36 million for a guy who's been described by many on this board as a "million dollar body with 2cent coconut on top". How disappointing. :D

Would we get the 1st round compensation this year or next year?

Reading between the lines of the Graves' press conference, he appears willing to consider a trade of Wilson for a 1st rounder.

I'm not so sure this such a bad idea - it would enable the Cards to replace Wilson with Taylor and then opt either to draft a WR or CB with their later #1.

Also - I'm kind of setting my sights on Sapoaga with our #33 (because I'm afraid to risk losing him by hoping we could get him with our high third round pick). Which would mean - if we drafted a corner with our second #1 under the above scenario, we'd lose out on a dominant WR.

In a perfect world, we'd (a) solve our corner problems in free agency, (b) trade Wilson for a #1, (c) draft Taylor at #3, (d) Rashaud Wood late in round one, (e) a CB like Strait, Colclaugh Poole or LeSeuer near the top of the second round (to start out as #3 corner and be gradually phased in as a starter) and (f) Sapoaga near the top of the third round.

But the monkey-wrenches in that scenario would be (a) no one drafting Taylor at #1 or #2 and (b) no one drafting Sapoaga before our high third round pick (maybe we'd have to settle for Olshansky).

This is what I'm concerned about. If I'm a team in need of CB help I'd grab Hill in a heart beat. He's cheap and can be your nickle back. I think the Cardinals are taking a chance by not giving him a middle tender.

Do you think someone out there is willing to pay Hill... 1.3m?

I don't... and whatever it is the CARDS can decide to match.

Jeff,

On another post I commented on this "alluded comment" from Graves concerning trading Wilson for a #1 pick.

You can read between the lines any which way you want, but this was not what Graves was saying......rather that, with the tender offer made to Wilson, if another team were to offer him a contract they would then have to give us a #1. Quite different.

I'm surprised that you would think that Wilson was tradeable for a #1 pick......what team would offer us this? If someone did, you bet, I'd jump all over it!

Some of you have it wrong we get nothing if a team gets kasper he was an undrafted free agent. The only reason he got tendered is bc DG wants him not bc they want a team to take him. He is like a player with a transition tag. We get no compensation for kasper.

First of all Spank, it wasn't "an alluded comment." The precise quote by Graves (per the EVT) was -

“If someone is willing to offer us a first-rounder for him, we’d have to take a good look as to whether it makes sense for us to take that,” Graves said.

I do not interpret this to mean: "If we were to receive first round compensation for him..." I accept Graves' quote on face value: i.e. If someone was to offer us a first rounder for him, I'd consider it. - in other words, a TRADE.

Rod is saying he would consider it, but not necessarily pull the trigger on it.

I can understand why you'd be upset being from Wilson's neck of the woods in Carolina and all. But don't take it out on me, please.

Good news for a Kasper fan. I hope he makes the team.
