I really think this guy is a good fit for our defense. He can get to the QB (had 11 sacks last year and 27 total). If he's there at 31 I hope we seriously consider him. It will all depend on which RBs are still on the board. Any thoughts?

Height: 6-2 3/4 | Weight: 256 | 40-Time: 4.78

Official Bio

Strengths:
Excellent size...Long arms...Good athlete...Fantastic pass rusher and blitzer...Good strength...Tough...Physical...A powerful tackler...Looks comfortable in coverage...Does a nice job of taking on and shedding blockers...Decent range...Aggressive with a non-stop motor...Makes plays in pursuit...Solid instincts...Is intense and competitive...Offers some versatility...Productive...Has a lot of experience...A team leader.

Weaknesses:
Relatively average timed speed...Limited reps in coverage...Hips aren't real fluid...Tends to play too tall...Will struggle to turn and run in man...Does not use his hands well...Didn't make many plays on the boundaries...Possible conditioning issues...Minor durability concerns.

Notes:
Was a four-year starter in the ACC...Named 2nd Team All-ACC in 2008...Led the entire country in linebacker sacks as a senior...Played through a serious shoulder injury in 2006 that eventually required surgery...Started his final 49 games with the Cavs...Could project outside or inside...Best fit at the next level will likely come on the strongside in a 4-3 scheme or outside in a 3-4...Big, versatile 'backer who makes a ton of impact plays...Excellent pro prospect who could end up being a stud in the NFL like Ahmad Brooks was supposed to be.

I'd take him. he's one of the few OLB's in the draft that are used to playing with their hand off the ground. He'd have less of a transition period than say Larry English.

They said he had alot of trouble adjusting to OLB at the Senior Bowl.

You could be right. He'll have a hard time getting past the Dolphins and Giants.
Giants are loaded up the ass with pass rushers, so I don't see that happening. Dolphins would probably draft Larry English and Aaron Maybin over Clint Sintim. Sintim is a projected 2nd rounder so I don't doubt he'll be on the board, that's not the question. The question is if we pull the trigger on him.

Clint actually went to my high school in northern VA and by some draw of luck, shared the same suite (he lived next door) my freshman year at UVA. Groh's 3-4 system allowed him to manuever around the field to his advantage. Out of the games I saw live, I would say he would rush 75% of the time and drop back in coverage the rest. A big weakness of his is overpursuing, in which many times he would over run the QB or RB.

In terms of character, the guy is pretty grounded (but then again, this could be a biased opinion). I remember coming back from class many times and he would be coming out of my room with 2-3 cans of my Chunky soup. He said he'd buy me a car if he made it to the NFL.

Wouldn't that be something if he went to the CARDS?!

Ooh, just say no to Michael Johnson!

I've seen two recent mocks with the Cardinals taking Johnson first. Say he is "a type" of player we have drafted in the past with questionable output, but loads of upside potential. He has the measurables but can/will be overmatched plenty here at the next level.

Anyway one of these mocks has us drafting the PSU center Shipley in it , in the 3rd round. You have any opinion on him?

LOL they just changed the pick to a different center, but I'd love to have Shipley. He has really short arms, so he's only going to be a C in the NFL; no moving to guard. Still, he's strong as hell, a beast in the run game, and he can move extremely well for an interior lineman. I'd say the 3rd is too high for him. If we want to wait for a C, though, he might be available in the 4th.

 Depending if our targets are all gone in the 3rd and go a different way, he'd be a viable candidate for a 4th rounder. Sounds about right. Him in the 4th . Then keep our hot streak alive in the 5th. :p

Shipley is also short for a center at 6 ft 1 inch. Most of the other available centers are 6 ft 4 inches. I would prefer Mack, Unger, Woods or Lugis over him.

Cards don't draft people with question marks, until they fall into the 2nd or 3rd round usually. They allow the 1st round talent to drop, then they will take a chance on them.

Do you think Laurenaitais is first round talent?

Probably, low first round.

When I said question marks, what I meant to say was character issues ( mainly Branch, Dockett, Dansby) come to mind.

I have been a Sintim fan for a while

He doesnt have the eye popping speed or athleticism that would propel him into the top of the first round, but is one of those guys who is better in pads than he is in shorts. Excellent on field production. You get the sense that while his upside might be a limited, his downside is as well -- overall, a pretty safe pick.

I have seen mocks and rankings that put him anywhere from #15 overall to the bottom of round 2.

Michael Johnson is the exact opposite. He has the eye popping athleticism and quicks along with intiguing size. His problem is that he runs hot and cold. Making plays one moment/game -- dissapearing the next. His upside is Osi Umenoriya (sp?), his downside is out of the league in three years.

His projections are right in that #25 to #45 range.

Johnson may have some of those issues. But he had a less stellar career (except maybe as a senor) than those players.

Whereas Laurinaitis, there is no question. He has the heart. Think Jack Lambert.
