I really feel for Dan Haren and also Kirk Gibson. Haren pitches his heart out and loses another game due to having the worse bullpen ever in modern baseball. I love Kirk Gibson and really think he can become a skipper that all admire but he is stuck with these losers.

Trying to be a Diamond's fan is really tough these days.

It was the batters this game that failed Haren the most IMO. 16 strike outs and 1 walk.

I keep hearing about the historically bad ERA of the bullpen but our batters striking out might be even worse IMO. They are on record to shatter the old record of 1399 and are on pace for over 1500.

Talk about futility on both scales. Why werent the batting and pitching coaches fired as well?

Don't fret for Danny... I have little doubt that he will be gone by the end of the trading deadline... :(

Good point... Here are some facts:

We have 5 guys in the Top 17 in all of MLB for Strikeouts!!!! They are:

Reynolds - 112
Upton - 104
LaRoche - 84
Young - 74
Johnson - 73

That is stunning. Historically BAD! And that many guys with that many K's will never enable a team to be successful...

As a team, we lead MLB by far in K's with 761. The next team are the Marlins with 651!! :bang:

And just for good measure, as the suckyness with this team is so comprehensive that you can't just pick on the hitting or the pen, here are some pitching stats:

We lead MLB in in Runs per Game with 5.71. Pitt is next at 5.48.
We lead MLB in ERA with a 5.31. Pitt is next at 5.11.
We are second to last in Save with 16
We lead the league in giving up the most Hits.
We are 4th in Walks.
We possess a league worst Save % of 53%.
We lead the league in Blown Saves with 14.
And we 2nd to last in Holds.

Really... it's hard to imagine a team as a whole unit, playing any worse than all of this... WOW!

It is now July 21st and, in a 14 inning victory to sweep the Mets, the D'backs bullpen gave up one hit over the final 8 innings. Wow!

And even though we had the bases loaded in the 12th with one out and did not put it away, we did two innings later.

The effect that a Manager has on the attitude of a team, and therefore its performance, is grossly underrated.

Heads held high instead of drooping shoulders, so to speak, is all it took to put life back into the team following the Melvin and Hinch comatose years.

Totally agree, Gibson is a leader. They need to keep him. He is all about winning.
