If they believed that Kolb was better than their guy, wouldn't they trade for him straight up? How is that not essentially saying that "no, we like our guy more."

I fully expect a post later in the year from you, Arizona's Finest, and TJ saying, "Hell, yes, I was wrong about Kevin Kolb," should he turn out to be as bad as he's shown to be in the first five seasons of his career. Maybe he's one of those guys who goes from being really, really mediocre to being an All-Pro Franchise Quarterback after five seasons in the NFL.

You know... like that one guy... you know who I'm talking about... Like... I dunno... Rich Gannon?

Trent Green. Only guy I've seen do that though I think there may have been one other. Not sure. How in the heck did the Redskins sit that guy on the bench behind Gus Ferrotte and Heath Shuler and Jeff Hoestetler? Was Green hurt all the time or something?

so unknown optimism makes them have a better QB? The question was not about what some other team's believe and what they would not give up till they find out what they have, it was about who is better. I refuse to give any credit till a rookie proves himself on the field. Yes, I do think Vick might be worse than Kolb after his play last year coming into THIS season. If you think I'm a joke for stating my opinion, cool...hope you enjoy the laugh. Just do me a favor for all those out there who are convinced enough that Kolb stinks, please do not make a post later in the year about how you were wrong. With the tone of authority some people take on this for a QB which to me is still an unknown quantity, it does not even warrant a cliche 'I'm gonna eat crow now' and the assorted other good grace comments some might issue if he does do well.

What else do you want to go with? Kolb has looked lousy and we have not seen anything from those players yet. At least they HAVE optimism. Even Kolb's backers are now hoping he can become something along the lines of Matt Cassell.

If you want to say that those players cannot be assumed to be better than Kolb, then you also cant assume they'll be worse. So if thats your line of thought then remove any team with a rookie starting from the conversation...

And you're still left with Kolb being among the worst starting QBs in the league.

I said it in another thread. The only team with a clearly worse QB situation than ours right now is Jacksonville. There are others that are debateable (Miami, Oakland), but it would take a huge leap in productivity from one of our QBs for us to even be among the leagues average.

LOL. Want to know how Vick performed in the last four games of 2011?

72/123 (58.6%), 1110 yards, 9.02 YPA, 7 TDs, 3 INTs, plus 1 rushing TD. 3-1 with three straight wins to end the year.

Want to know how Kolb performed in his last four starts in 2011?

65/122 (53.3%), 904 yards, 7.41 YPA, 4 TDs, 4 INTs, 1-3 record.

I can totally see how based on those performances you believe that Kevin Kolb has a more promising 2011 ahead of him than Michael Vick.

The worst thing is that Vick (and to a similar extent, Tebow, believe it or not) makes the running game around him much, much better. Kolb doesn't make anyone around him better, and probably makes some people look worse. That's one of the reasons he got benched for Vick.

I would not say their flier on Vick has payed off because Vick has surely started to revert to his typical erratic self and age and injury potential will have the Eagles needing a QB soon

Totally fair point. But I'd say the flier they took was the first contract, which was for 1.6m in 2010, the year he set career highs in most major categories, then an option for 5m in 2011. Meanwhile, Kolb's contract was tending after 2011, so to get value in a trade they really did have to make their decision after 2010, and I don't see how they make a different decision than they did (given that they were already past any reservations about Vick's off-field issues since they picked him up in the first place).

But the subsequent Vick contract for 6 years, 100m/35m guaranteed: sure that may end up subject to criticism. Maybe in comparison Kolb's 6 year, 65m/12m guaranteed contract won't look so bad--if he can improve.

I would have started Vick too, given him a extension, from the fact that he was playing out of his mind, he was not playing good but playing amazing when he made his return in Philly. He started throwing something he never did his whole career, a touch pass with accuracy. My brother is a die-hard Falcon fan and I remember watching him with my brother in numerous games when he started lighting people up, and my brother looked at me and said that this what not the same QB from his days with the Falcons. Vick was not just a double threat which could run, he looked like a complete passer who could read defenses. Now, he is starting to look like the erratic Vick of old. I just do not know about Kolb, I really cannot give a definite opinion from the wacked out off season last year and the injuries.

This year we will know for sure. This year we will know for sure about Bradford and Freeman. And any team with a unproven rookie by default gets included because those teams play and their QB register is a zero till they do something (for every touted QB, there is a Manning and a Ryan Leaf). I do not think it will take long into the season to find out about Kolb, five games should be enough with a full off season and his experience with just being in a professional program (be it he got on the field for long periods of time or not). We will see, but I just personally have not seen enough to grade him. If dude gets hurt again and becomes a game to game decision again, it will then officially be a injury prone QB in my book (which will make him stink, because you cannot depend on him) and the Cardinals would be smart to give the reins to Skelton (though his accuracy scares me, and it would just be our luck to find a QB that has everything you want but lacking in one major attribute) who unlike Kolb, really would require a majority of this season to really know what we have.

Alex Smith

If you put Kolb or Skelton on the 49ers, within Smith's limited role, they would both be successful upright QB's. Hence my lack of confidence with Whiz's leadership. Alex Smith would be cut like Leinart from the Cardinals.

Smith is by far the most successful QB in the NFCW and it has more to do with John Harbaugh coaching than Alex Smith's talent. Jackson and Bradford would do well in that system also. It is what i've been screaming and getting screamed at by fellow fans for , these last few years.

and it pisses me off that we wasted this window of oppurtunity, A new one may be opening, maybe not? but it has a lot less to do with the QB position than everybody seems to think. One Fans opinion.

honest mistake

Honest mistake, but yea I think the Ravens Head Coach would make the Cardinals better, I have seen how Whiz responds to adversity, Problem is I think Whiz creates adversity around him. I've seen him do it to young players, bragging that he wants to see how they respond.

destroyed many a young confidence, but it is what it is, like a US president, I may not agree, may even voice my freedom of speech, but HE is my President- and I will go to war for him and my country.

I expect Matt Flynn to be the worse starting QB in the NFL, if He starts.

I see if differently THESMEL, though I can respect your point, but this is the pros. You are getting big bucks to play like a man against other men...and one can take the rah rah rah and leave it at college because you have to start learning to be a man day one. If this identity holds true on the field, it holds true down the entire process. I have no problem with Whis being a hard ass with praise. The only fault I can find in Whis is a tendency to be stubborn about his schemes and decisions. He could give a little at times, and adjust as Horton did, when he scaled back the complexity of his defense.

lol, I know man, just messing around

but do you really think Whiz is doing it wrong? We've had 1 QB that was a legit franchise QB, and that was in the twilight of his career. And I don't think he would have been given the start without Whiz. Since Kurt, we haven't had a single QB show that he deserves security at the position

yes I do,

I don't know enough about Matt Flynn but I think AAron Rodgers is a very good QB in a very good system, that system was purring along pretty well at an elite level, when Flynn stepped in, He played great but I don't think the defense expected that, He earned his chance with the Packers all time record game- but he isn't proven like Cassell was with the Patriots with a much larger sample.

I think Whiz left talent on the table with many players, Edge, Beanie, Matt, Q, DRC, Reggie Wells, Branch and now Duece. there are more. I don't think Whiz got the best out of them or our team.

Really - Leinart was taking over this team after Kurt retired- so Whiz called back that red White Scrimmage TD - to see how he would respond? then on to 4-6 - oh Matt is the starter- we know what we have in Matt we need to see what the Back Qb's can do?

kicking players in the nuts doesn't build their confidence? THT starting over Beanie? really? Edge? Really? Mike Adams at CB? really? Joey Porter for only 9 million a year - years past his prime? Faneca too?

Should I even mention Mcfadden over Rod Hood for the same money? Whiz not only does many things wrong He never admits anything or takes responsibility like say - Andy Reid- It is all the players fault? He cut them all, and brang in 51 new names last year- Couldn't be the PGC /RGC crap Whiz chose/failed and dropped.

Mike Miller is as bad an OC as Chris Miller was a QB coach? His offense is not coordinated! Hence the worse QB"S in THE NFL, DA, Max Hall, Bartell, Skelton, Kolb, and even Croyal stopped in last year? I can't think of a single QB that would succeed in this 20 rush a game system?

lol, you won't see me stick up for Miller. I think he's awful. Leinart was never poised to take anything over. THT started over Beanie when he was a rookie, no surprise. Then Beanie kept getting hurt. I think Williams is a better runner than Beanie, but I don't expect him to be starting when the season kicks off. I understand you like Leinart, but he's done nothing to deserve a shot

Q played and got plenty of balls
Edge was old. RBs age fast in this league for the most part. We had Emmitt Smith too, he didn't do anything
DRC turned into a slacker. Good riddance. And I loved the guy his first couple years. You can't just stop trying and expect to last
Deuce can't make weight
Leinart sucked and was a distraction off the field. Just ask Alex Trebek

Thesmel, don't you get tired of endlessly repeating yourself?

I am arguing whether your statements are valid or not, just your choice to say the same things over and over.

Well starting TH over Edge didn't turn out too well. 2.8 yards per carry!?!? But, hey, in 2008 we didn't need any running game. I wonder if any other RB has ever had one 100+ yard game and 15 games with less than 40 yards rushing in one season? Never mind, you could probably find 6 or 7 who ran for a 100+ vs the Cards and never gained over 40 yards again in their careers.
