New England and the Panthers...

Pardon me but :barf:

Think someone might top the mythical 14 point barrier?

I think I will find something else to do on Superbowl Sunday.

What?
It could have been worse. Any SB involving the fricken lambs would have been insufferable. Now we just have to cheer for Carolina. I'm sure you know why.

I'll take a brilliant, superb defensive battle over an all-out offensive blitz any day of the week. Of course, those can be fun too.

I'm just saddened by folks that can't appreciate good, tough football games...especially in the SB!!!

This is the 1st SuperBowl in a long time that I could care less who wins. I'll watch, but neither team really does anything for me.

Sorry Stout but I couldn't disagree with you more.

These teams win by playing a "don't let me offense lose it for me" strategy. They play ultra conservative and are quite happy letting their kickers score all their points for them.

I appreciate good defensive teams.

What I don't like are two inept offenses facing two great defenses. It will be boring as hell.

Ooh, see, I have to disagree with you that they are two inept offenses.

With Carolina, you have a great rushing attack-at this point, possibly the best in the league. They KNOW they're a running team, with Jake making plays when he needs to. Did he need to pass a lot to win that game? No, so why take more risks?

The Pats are another animal entirely. Save for perhaps the QB position, they have no star players, no flashy players. What they have, though, is an OC who knows how to gameplan. He knows that in a given week the offense may have to open up and score a ton for them to win. And they can do that. He knows there are instances where conservative, smart, close-to-the-vest playcalling works best. And they can do that too.

Of course, it's a miracle the Pats made it at all, as Weiss tried to throw the game (pun intended). Why, oh why, do you go ahead with two PASSING plays in that situation? You have GOT to run the ball at least 2, if not 3 times IN A ROW. Even if you can't get that first down, you have to force the other team to burn those timeouts. Wow, 2 out of 3 passing playes?

Carolina is the 16th rated offense. New England is the 17th.

This is with defenses that give them EVERY opportunity to do well.

I would not consider either of them competent.

Carolina only scored 21 points more than they allowed. Their entire philosophy is keep the score close and rely on the other team to lose.

I liken them to the old Cleveland Cavaliers whose team goal was to not let either team hit 80 points.

I think this Super Bowl is exciting. Mainly because New England is the best NFL team we've seen since the mid-nineties 49ers and Cowboys. Two superbowls in 3 years is AMAZING in this parity-filled NFL, and I believe they'll finish where the Rams couldn't. IMO, Bellicheck is the finest coach in football because his teams are prepared for anything, the individual players are almost always in position to be successful, and they execute with razor precision on just about every offensive and defensive play. They don't have a superstar on their team because everyone on the team plays well.

Saying that, I must admit I'm also quite impressed with Tom Brady. He's un-nervingly quick at reading defenses and selecting the open receiver, and rarely makes mistakes. I'd have nightmares if I had to go up against him as a defensive coordinator.

I really didn't see the Eagles standing a chance against New England in the Superbowl, mainly for the same reasons they lost yesterday, they have NO COMPETENT RECEIVERS. This has been their problem for years and I can't believe Reid won't draft a damn receiver in the first round this year. That's all they need in Philly and then they'll be a super bowl team too.

Carolina presents a challenge for New England, basically because their defense is incredibly intelligent all-around too. This should be a great defensive battle with a lot of 2 TE, run it down your throat, classic NFC East-style football. It should be fun to watch, but on the same token, I also expect Tom Brady to start crafting his legacy. He's a tremendous player.

What a ridiculous statement. These are the two best teams in the league and you say they are incompetent? The Patriots have won 14 in a row! The Panthers win back to back playoff games in St. Louis and Philadelphia! Our Cardinal defense so be so incompetent...

Is it possible that the over/under line could be single digit? This game may set offensive football back 50 years. Can you say field goals? Yucko. The good thing is the rules committee might get so bored by this one, that they will rewrite the book.

Prediction. 9-6. Doesn't matter who wins. BORING :bigyawn:

I disagree.

First of all, in every Super Bowl, something will happen that will surprise us all.

Second of all, I'm looking forward to the chess match between Weis and Fox.

Third - lost in all the brou hah hah about the Pats win over the Clots was that the Pats were able to hold onto the ball for so long (Clots only had 4 possessions in the entire first half). This in turn put pressure on Manning to make something happen. He forced things in "the snowy tundra of Foxboro." There's your ballgame. There won't be a frozen tundra in Houston, and I don't think Carolina lets NE hold onto the ball for that long.

Fourth - I love 9 - 6 defensive duals.

Actually

I normally don't watch superbowls because most of the time I hate both teams that are playing.

It was like back in the Joe Gibbs days in DC.....I could care less......got tired of the 49ers.....just seemed to be the same ole teams for a while.

I can root for Carolina.

They me remind me of a team that I wish we were.

Also have some Carolina friends who send me gear so I'll have something to wear.

Well....can't be much worse than last years snooze fest or when the Ravens won a few yrs before that. I quit watching last years during the 2nd quarter.

I like both these teams - and the empahsis is on "TEAM." So much for superstars - all the NFL marquee names will be watching with the rest of us. But as long as we are on the topic, whht was the most boring super bowl ever? Most of them have sucked actually. Long ago Colts-Cowboys and Skins-Dolphins (remember Garo Yepremium's pass!) and Bills losses were boring but Ravens-Giants, now that was bad. At least Beyonce will get things started!

I know that the Pats offense gets it done, but I HATE watching it. Those freaking dink-and-dunk passes and RAC yards (5+), but defenses never really get the chance to make a play (either sack or INT). It's just not very fun to my eye to watch. I got really bored in the first half of the Colts-Pats game because both teams were throwing on 75% of the snaps and three-step drops for five-yard completions aren't interesting football for me.

I know that the Pats O gets the job done, but it's brutal to watch. I think that the physical, no-star defense of the Panthers actually give the Pats O the best matchup for the Super Bowl.

At least it's not the Eagles.

I think the game will be VERY hard hitting. I love the way both of these teams punish WRs coming off the line and after they catch the ball. The week off is a big edge for the Pats, IMO, but I really think the Panthers will make a more than respectable showing.

Really, both teams are great models to follow. Very tough defenses. Offenses that always move the ball in the clutch. Players smartly acquired, centering on the draft and midlevel free agents. We're much more likely to be a contender that way, rather than having an offense or defense full of big money players like the Rams and the Ravens.

Bears over Pats (fell asleep, yes, the alcohol helped, before the first half was over and didn't wake up until it was over).

49ers/Chargers

Ravens/Giants

True their offense that year was great however it didn't function at all the same against two really good defenses in the last two games.

What happend was that the titans and the Bucs offenses were not good enough to score enough points on a very good Rams defense.

No really one dimensional type offensive team has won the Super Bowl but a lot of one dimensional defensive teams have.
