Not even close. I'm from St. Louis and have been following this goofball organization since they arrived from Chicago. Got hooked on Coryell and the '74-'76 teams. It's been pretty much downhill since then. The current edition is bad, but believe me boys, I've seen worse.

Any teams that had these guys starting had to be really bad.

Walt Patulski (after he flopped as a #1 overall draft choice)
Council Rudolf (fondly referred to as "The Councilman")
Dave Stief(had about 5.2 speed and filled in for Roy Green after Roy's mysterious leg injuries)
John Barefield(wore a quarter in his ear and Dierdorf once cracked that if he came near him he'd make change for the quarter)
Tom Tuppa(he actually played QB at one time for us)

Just a few of the jokers that we've had in our deck.

Neil Odonohue--- Really tall kicker and cost the Cardinals a playoff spot.

Anyone remember what is still regaurded as the worst Monday Night game ever between the Cardinals and the Giants.

Like 5 missed field goals and several of them in OT it ended in a tie.

Neil looked like a damn ostrich and gave me a nervous breakdown every time he kicked. I think Hannifan loved him because he was Irish....the kick sailed wide and so much for the playoffs. After the game when Hannifan was asked what he was going to do, he replied, "I tell you what I'm not going to do, I'm not going to jump out of any window higher than the basement." Ever since then, I figured we had a pretty smart coach, not a good head coach, but smart.

Oh, and for you guys who think Rod Graves is the worst General Manager ever, don't forget Joe Sullivan from back in the 60's maybe early 70's. He was really close with Bill Bidwill and was pretty incompetant, but even he had his moments.

I'll never forget his line when we cut one of his laggard draft choices. He said, "that's what I call addition by subtraction, we're a better team now that he's not on it."

I've been following this team since '64 & although there have been stinkers, this is the worst era of Cardinal football that I can remember in a long, long time. This team pretty much gets slaughtered week in and week out. This team is pathetic on both sides of the ball. Some of the bad teams in the past had strengths at least on one side of the ball. We pretty much always stunk on D, but we had very good QB's during every decade since the 60's (Charlie Johnson - 60's, Jim Hart - 70's, Neil Lomax - 80's). These guys made us competetive, even when the D was horrible. We may not have made the playoffs exept 74 & 75, but we were usually in the hunt. The playoff were much more difficult a task then than now & we're now actually eliminated by week 8 or 9.

I was in a bar called the Doo Drop Inn that night and watched the whole game. I never cussed a kicker that bad in my life.

I remember that game like it was yesterday. I believe it was 1983. Several of the field goals were point blank too. really short ones. I think the game lasted until after midnight here in the CST.

Man, that was during the 90 or 91 season I believe. guys like Rosenbaugh and Gary freaking Hogeboom played during that time as well. Dark, dark days those were.

Without looking in an almanac, I tend to agree. We've lost like 15 out of our last 16 or something? Has there ever been that bad of a stretch for this franchise?

Ah, but let's not forget that Cardinal QB's were being killed and maimed on almost a weekly basis back then. Lomax, Stoudt, Hogeboom, Rosenbach, Chandler, Gelbaugh, Tupa, Beuerlein, McMahon, Schroeder, Krieg, Esiason, Graham, Brown. You really needed to have a death wish to play QB here.

After he rehabbed (a knee, wasn't it?), Rosenbach simply walked away from the game rather than continue to pull sod out of his teeth every week.

I wonder how many years Lomax had left in him, if not for the arthritic hip.

about 5 to 7 good ones... ah the shame of it he was just getting good.

Sorry but after him the Cardinals just plain stunk except in 98. That was a pretty magical year and then it got thrown uncerimoniously in the dumpster.

Some of you probably remember the first case of instant replay that wasn't really instant replay.

Mel G's catch against the Redskins that decided a playoff spot.

It took for freakin ever for the officials to finally rule it a touchdown not an incomplete pass.

The Cardiac Cards... We really had a shred of pride back then.

Rosenbaugh became a rodeo rider then ended his career in the CFL. The best part of Barefield was he insisted upon being called "Dr.Doom". We have really had some poopy players.

Snakester, that bar wouldn't have happened to be in Southern Illinois, would it?

How about the Bonnie Sloan DT 74-75. He was a starter for the Cards and he was a Deft Mute. The DE would hold is hand so as to know when to shoot the gap.

Bonnie Sloan

I remember Bonnie Sloan. I'm not sure he ever made the starting team, but he was a good pre-season story. Same for Colin Scotts. He was the Australian rules football player, who was going to be the first Australian to play in the NFL. Unfortunately, he never made the grade, but again, a good story.

Where in the hell did we get these guys? Come to think of it, maybe we could use a few of them now. It takes your mind off of the reality of being 1-5 and out of playoff competition before the midway mark. Typically, they will now win 3 out of 4 and get everybody excited at 4-6, only to go 2-6 down the stretch for another 6-10 season. Oh well, I knew they didn't have the horses this year. Give us 5-6 new starters next year and let's see what we do.

My mind is not what it once was. I sure remember the good days with Charlie Trippi and the dream backfield and I greatly enjoyed the Jim Hart,Charlie Johnson days but as I look at this team and its situation today I still contend we are in the worst position we have ever been in since 1945 when I saw my first game. It is not that the results of this team is lousy it is a lack of hope for our future, no fans in the stands. the laughing stock of all professional sports, and an owner who seem oblivious to it all. I find it totally amazing that we have a group of dedicated fans such as on this site who stick with them no matter what. We are sort of like members of the British Light Brigade as they charged into the Valley of Death. hmmmm I like that "Valley of Death" vs "Valley of the Sun". Sort of a pun say what?

Ah you forget another great QB. Our 1st round pick who refused to sign with us. The great Kelly Stouffer. As bad as he was and he would not even sign. That is an image killer.

Stouffer was great when compared to Buddy Humphrey, Terry Nofsinger and Steve Pisarkawicz. All of whom I had the misfortune to see at the helm.

Barefield was Dr. Doom right? Self proclaimed superhero, mediocre player.

Stief did have one of the alltime great catches though, a one handed diving catch but yeah he was slow.

In fairness that was a LONG FG to kick rushing onto the field like that, I assume we're talking the miss at RFK in 1984?

We got hosed by the refs in that game anyways but yeah if he makes the kick we're in the playoffs with a great offense.
