Without reading the article I am not sure how that number compares to the general population, or also interesting, compares to other dangerous jobs. Also, is that deaths due to anything, and at what ages?

What is their reference point? Wives who die of spousal violence? Drunk Drivers? Is it deaths at later date directly related to on the field injuries?

I will assume since you mentioned it, it is of higher significance. I am not sure though. Please tell.

This seems a little vague.

Former and current players 50 or younger is probably between 10,000 and 15,000 players. You're talking everyone drafted or undrafted after since 1992. Roughly 400 players a year for 30 years is 12,000.

50 out of 12,000 is is 0.41% which seems pretty average to me.

Man, you guys, all he said was "worth noting, and sad"

The need to pick every little thing, comment, or opinion apart around here is remarkable.

Not picking it apart. Just my first though was "There are a lot of 50 or under NFL players so 50 dead since 2021 doesn't seem huge."

People everywhere, especially younger people, have been dying at higher rates since the pandemic.

This is an interesting topic and one that definitely needs more research done. There is no dispute that the NFL shortens the life span of many players. There are also other aspects to this. For instance, OL Caleb Jones doesn't need to NFL to have a high risk of dying somewhat young. This heart isn't designed to keep his body alive that long. I'd been interested to see the numbers by position to take into account more hits and average body size.

Either way, it is sad.
