Don't need the distraction, the selfishness and the sub par defense. Sure, he can hit, but given that the team also would have nowhere to put him, I'll pass.
I would take a chance on Manny but we would probally have to give up a ton to get him, and he does have a attitude problem but the kid can hit would be worth the gamble imo.
I'm not sure I want that floppy-mopped head case here. .300/35/100 probable, but he's got a lousy attitude and that $20M contract. It would likely cost the D-backs too much to get him, too. I say pass.
According to ESPN, the Boston Red Sox and Marlins (of all teams) are seriously negotiating a deal for Manny. Evidently the Red Sox are willing to pay his ENTIRE salary for the rest of season.
As a BoSox fan it would really suck seeing Manny go. He is a Yankee killer. I assume Hermida would be part of their package, not sure about their prospects. I would love to see Boston go after Holliday when he becomes a FA.
As much as I think clubhouse chemistry is overrated, the DBacks don't have the veteran clubhouse presence that will keep Manny interested. Plus he's been regressing for a couple years now and we won't be able to afford him next year regardless.
This team can win the West as constructed and in a short series pitching is the key and we have it. I'd rather let the kids develop than take a shot at Manny at which point we'd still be inferior on paper to teams such as the Angels and probably Cubs.
