He basically has a take it or leave it offer from the Chargers. If he doesn't take it, he gets released. It seems all the good teams in the league don't have much money to spend.

If released, should the Cardinals maybe bring him in? They could use the money they get from Edge on LT and use him 1-2 with Hightower and use the draft for defense and other needs. He played on a gimpy leg last year and got 1200 yards and 10+ TD's....so what do you think?

*I may or may not have made a thread on this before. I forgot.

If they can sign him for the same deal Edge gets I say do it.

I do think LT is being written off a bit early. I would absolutely love the cards to sign him.

Why the endless fascination with running back retreads? Sigh.

Edge was set to make 5M, LT 8M. I trust the coaches to know what's best, but it seems to me if you can get a happy/motivated LT for close to the same $$$ as "put my Crdainals' jersey in the garbage can" Edge you do it. LT-2yrs-12M, first 6M guaranteed. The Saints may outbid us but it might be worth an offer. We still draft a RB in the 2nd rd after picking a pass rusher in the 1st.

Why the endless fascination with running back retreads? Sigh.
Only because our roster right now includes a second year player and a disgruntled retread. I think Edge has to go and Hightower needs help until this year's rookie proves himself. After reading my own words I don't think we want to lock up 6M on LT, might as well take a chance on a rookie. If we add a retread it should be in the 2-3M range which LT won't go for.

Even with the injury, LT is an upgrade over Edge. Keep in mind that LT will be playing with something to prove next season. If the Cards got him I don't think it would be as fruitless as the Emmitt Smith signing.

We still would need a "Home Run" type Running Back in the draft because LT has lost some speed.

My only concern would be the production in the postseason though.

: /

We dont have as good a runblocking line as SD does, so id hate to see him bitch and complain if were not making holes for him.

We don't run the ball enough for LT to get hurt in the regular season so he would be fine in the post-season. Win-Win for both sides :D

If we don't get a top RB in the draft I would be interested.

LT has some tread left.

Right. He wouldn't be overworked because Hightower and whatever rookie RB is drafted will eat up carries.

Which is why I had to re-think and doubt he'ld be worth 5+ M to the Cardinals. So much depends on the route the FO/Coaches want to go. At this point I'm having a very hard time getting a read on their intentions other than they don't want to go into the draft with only Hightower under contract. (I guess I need to add Chris Vincent to that because he is signed)

This would make the third premier running back we sign in 6 years that is past his prime: Emmit, Edge and then LT. There has been no improvement from year to year in our rushing attack. Our competition does not fear our ability to run. With how well we spread the ball with the passing game, you would think that we can run the ball successful since it catches them off guard. Moreover, we do not have the ability to drain the clock in the end when we have the lead. It would be wise this season if we set our sights on one of the premier backs in the draft and hope that he can help cure this problem we've had for a while.

Well, if he took Edge's $$$ and a two year deal, we wouldn't have to take our RB of the future on the first day. Perhaps, we can then be open to either the top DE/OLB on the board or our centre for the next decade.

Yes... Please sign LT. That would be awesome. He's got more left than Edge did a few years ago. He's better than edge too.

Um a motivated LT for 2 years? Hells yeah I would do that. And then I would still draft a back on the first day and hedge our bets that LT and Hightower could be a solid 1 -2. With a guy like Shonn Green or James Davis learning for a year or two that would seem to be a good set up.

LT has one more big year in him. Maybe two. For a team on the cusp of a ring he would be a strong fit.

Think Patriots with Fred Taylor. I sure as hell ain't over paying him tough.

i'd take a chance on LT. Remember,he lost Lorenzo Neal paving the way for him last year and had the rookie from LSU,Hester, trying to lead block for him. That's about 250 yards difference right there.

High risk, low reward. Get a 3rd round back in the draft for pennies like the Broncos do

Finally, a point you make I agree with. And LT brings injury baggage the others did not have. Pass.

I know for a fact that LT would be very interested in the Cardinals if/when he gets let go which is looking pretty likely. Not sure in the Cards interest in him however.

I think the Cardinals and Saints are the only 2 teams that have a chance for playoffs, and an opportunity for him to play and be a starter. Maybe I am not thinking hard enough, but are there any good teams out there that need a starting RB and have money to get him?
