Cleveland apparently would like to move up in the draft. Dennis Green's son works in the personnel department for the Browns so there is a connection. Here is the proposal:

Arizona trades their number 1 (3rd overall) to Cleveland for their number 1 (7th overall), QB Tim Couch and WR Dennis Northcutt.

The trade helps both teams in this way. Arizona keeps a pick in the top nine (Green has stated there are nine blue chip players in the draft), they get a 26 year old QB who can compete with McCown for the top job, and a veteran speed receiver to team with Boldin and Johnson. The Browns get to dump some heavy salaries and a receiver who is caught in a contract snafu with Cleveland. The Browns can pursue Manning, Gallery, or Roethlisberger with their top choice.

I only like it if Couch restructures his deal because right now his base salary is around 7-9 mill I believe and the signing bonus is on Clev to py so I am not worried about that. But 7-9 mil is way to much that number would have to be dropped to around 2-3 mill with big incentives if he does beat out McCown for the starting job. Plus we would have to redo Northcutts Contract to a long term bigger deal just to make him happy about his situation since he was so looking forward to a bigger payday in free agency.

Plus I dont know where I read it but rumor is the cards are trying to get Jamel White(good 3rd down back), maybe he would be apart of the deal somehow.

While I can see Cleveland moving up, do not discount the Giants moving up from their position at #4 to our slot at #3.

The person that is becoming the center of attention is Gallery and both teams would sell their souls for a chance to draft him.

Northcutt is a FA and as such has no trade value for the Browns as a bargaining chip. Couch will be staying in Cleveland under a reworked contract. Also if we trade with New York, Fitzgerald or Mike Williams are still available. NY would have to throw in their 2nd round pick because that's what Cleveland will eventually offer.

NY know that Cleveland are hot on Gallery.....more so than Roesthlisberger.

As a betting man my cards are played that the Giants will be our trading partner.

Actually Northcutt isn't a FA...his agent did the same thing TO's agent did so according to reports, he is still with CLE (did he have a player option on his deal?).

I disagree the Giants will be our trading partner unless we scare them into it...I mean petrify them into it. If Gallery gets to us (a big if right now) all logic says we would pass, especially if Fitz is still on the board. JMHO

Like joeschmo, Couch would have to restructure his deal in order for me to get on board with it. I think Northcutt would be a good addition.

You are correct about Northcutt......I forgot about the mix up.

SD will take Eli Manning, Oakland will take Mike Williams, so technically Gallery will fall to us........but you are right, we would not pick him.

In order to guarantee that they could secure Gallery, the Giants might swap picks with us and still allow us to draft Fitzgerald at #4. The scuttlebutt making the rounds these days is that Cleveland also covet Gallery.......even over Roesthlisberger.

NY might not want to risk us trading down with Cleveland and could be scared into a trade with us.

We can't lose in a trade with NY cuz we would still get Fitzgerald and walk away with an additional pick in either round 2 or round 3.

Yes. It gives us a vet backup QB, a starting WR, and still keeps us in a place to get an impact player (top 9 pick).

I'd do it in a second.

~We get a QB to compete for the starting spot (a good thing).
~A fast, talented, young Wr with a couple of years experience (a good thing)
~We are still in the "Impact Player" range of the draft and would have a shot at a guy like Taylor, Udeze or Winslow.

Make it so, SMAC.

I like it!

The #3 spot in this years' draft is a GREAT spot to be in. I'm curious to see how it all plays out. FA in less than (24) hours. On your mark--get set--SIGN!!

This trade could be expanded to include Jamel White. If White is added to the mix then it could look something like this:

Arizona's #1 (3rd overall) and #4 for Cleveland's #1 (7th overall), Couch, Northcutt, and White.

I have waffled so much on who I think the Cards should take in this draft that I am just not sure anymore.

One thing that has been consistent is that I dont want them to take Roy Williams or Tommie Harris

Trading down for Northcutt is a great idea. We get a speed receiver and can defend taking a guy like Udeze at #7 (He is sneaking up into the blue-chippers).

Trading from #3 to #7 would take the Browns #2 and #4 according to the value chart.

I would replace the 2 with Couch and the 4 with Northcutt. To get White send an additional 4th this year and it all works out fine.

I keep hearing San Diego is starting to lean towards gallery also.......
