I would probably take more after the season hes had.

Sure but he's a free agent which might/should lower his cost somewhat. He's restricted though so if they are willing to max him, he's probably not going anywhere.

The only way Beal fits on this roster is if Booker is traded. The two cannot coexist in the same backcourt, particularly given our need for a facilitating point guard who can get Ayton whichever star shooting guard we have the ball.

Him and John Wall fit pretty good

Lillard and CJ fit pretty good, Steph and Klay fit pretty good.

Give me the 5 best players and I’ll make it work- Cotton Fitzsimmons

#3 + Warren + Johnson, sign me up. Beal has been their healthier of the two (Beal/Wall) and the Wiz play better with Beal and without. I'm saying how much better of a leader Beal is than how much Wall affects the team play. Who would you guard if you had Booker and Beal? Then some defensive wings with Bridges and Oubre?

The difference is that Wall, Lillard (and McCollum, more so than Booker or Beal) and Steph are all natural point guards. Booker and Beal are not. I guarantee you two Klays in the Warrior backcourt would be a disaster.

You still need a point guard.

Point guard responsibilities would be shared between Beal and Booker. Beal is a good distributor.

Neither is a point guard. We have now seen twice what a disaster Point Book is, both individually for Booker and for the team. Let's not make that mistake again.

Point Book was a consequence of not having anyone else with offense initiating capabilities on the team. Once Johnson was acquired, who is also not a true PG, the offense ran much smoother. Booker is a good playmaker and averages more assists than Steph Curry, as does Beal. A pairing of the two could, and I believe would, work well, similar to what we see in Portland and Golden State.

Not just lacking someone else with PG skills, Booker as a passer was also limited by the absence of a true scoring threat on the court with him. I agree with you, he and Beal would be a tremendous offensive backcourt.

The offense was still erratic at best with Johnson (also not a point guard) at the point, and we would see Booker blow games down the stretch because he ultimately would be forced to play point again. And, again, Portland and Golden State have a point guard (and Portland arguably has two). And assists don't tell the whole story. The offense gets bogged down with Point Book, and Point Book is a turnover machine. It does a major disservice to both the team and Booker himself not to play Booker at his natural shooting guard position.

The team would be a poor man's version of the Wizards, as there would be no ody to facilitate any front court oroduction, especially from our franchise center. No thanks.

A pass first point guard is not the direction the NBA is headed. Whereas interior scoring was emphasized in the past, scoring is now initiated on the perimeter. This devalues a pass first point guard, who is not as necessary to feed interior scorers, and raises the value of scoring pg's that shoot 3's.

Why would WE be a poor man's version of the Wizards? Just because we have Beal? Wall is statistically a better distributor than Lillard, yet Portland and GS's backcourt seems more effective in today's NBA. Why?

The Suns don't necessarily need a pass first point guard. Hence I would promote the acquisition of D'Angelo Russell. What the Suns need is a real point guard who while perhaps a scoring point guard is still capable of initiating the offense and creating for others efficiently and reliably as a passer. What the Suns do not need is a natural shooting guard, Booker and Beal included, masquerading as a point guard. We have already seen that experiment fail here...twice.

Other than an arbitrary title, in today's NBA what separates a point guard that looks to score from a shooting guard that looks to pass?

I like Beal and I do think he would fit pretty well next to Booker, but I do have one issue with this pairing. Booker is probably the better facilitator of the two and would thus mean Booker would likely continue to take most of the PG duties. I would prefer that whoever is starting next to Booker is a better facilitator than Booker so that Booker will play off the ball more.

I don't think it would matter if you had that much goodness between Booker and Beal on the court at the same time. Teams would have to compensate for either of them, they can score at will which will only elevate each others game. Beal is still a better penetrator, passer and facilitator than Booker, Booker has learned much this year by having the ball in his hands all the time though. It worked for some good players in Dragic and Bledsoe, better players like in Portland & Golden State, so why shouldn't it work for us with Booker/Beal?

Just some numbers for thought. Beal averages 5.5 assists per game. Combined with Booker's, that's 12.3 assists per game. Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum's combined assists are 9.8 per game. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson's combined assists are 7.7 per game.

I don't really disagree but Booker turns the ball over a little too much as a distributor and way too often when he's pressured out on top by multiple defenders. But all told, he's become a pretty effective distributor especially compared to where he started at. I have no doubt that he will continue to improve and that he'll even learn how to pass to his big guy down on the block. And some of his difficulties will disappear as soon as defenses can no longer swarm him when he has the ball.

I think he is headed toward being a James Harden style combo guard. He does need to cut the turnovers though.

I would absolutely do that deal, but I don't think the Wizards would. Maybe they realize that they are screwed for the next five years and maybe they just accept that, but I doubt it.

Floor vision, natural passing ability and decision making skills.

And how many turnovers do they average, and how often do they make the wrong pass or take the wrong shot versus the right one? Playing the point is about more than just assist numbers. Wilt Chamberlain posted seceral double digit assist games. Didn't make him a point guard.
