I wonder what the excuses will be. I know trades in football aren't like baseball but you can't tell me that there wasn't a single player on this team someone might have wanted. Also, great to see SF trade for JG and the Browns trying to McCarron but did the Cards try to get either of these players?

I'm not sure what you're looking for here. We already made our "splash" trade by trading for AP, and we're not going to get better by moving one of the few young contributors on this team. Did you really want to trade Fitz and watch him go win somewhere else so we could get a 5th round pick?

foolishness. any player on our squad that has solid trade value also has a solid roster spot on the team...we need our good players... now mind you...if the pats called and offered that second they got from the niners for Larry I would consider it... because we could never get a first for him, lol....
but mid season trades in the nfl are somewhat rare anyway even if we have seen a bump in them the past couple seasons.

I can't even believe there are people advocating for trades with Drew Stanton as our QB. Have you never seen the guy play?

I for one am happy no trades happened, and if you still think this team has a chance to do anything this year you are in denial.

Why give up picks when we’re heading into an obvious rebuild?

Also, Lmao @ the thought of trading for McCarron.

I was hoping to get some picks to improve our team for next year. And I'm glad DVontel is happy with Stanton.

He’s going to drive us to a top pick in a worthless season, so I’m fine with him starting the rest of the season.

..but not before barely beating the lowly 0-8 Niners and eliminating our chance to pick top 5. That's what Drew Stanton does! :stick:

What is trading for a qb like McCarron or JG going to do for this team this year? Neither will know the playbook before the season is over. JG and McCarron both might be a FA after the season and SF didn’t get a guarantee that he would even resign with them in the offseason. McCarron and JG have 5 starts combined. Small sample size considering what teams were giving up or going to give up for them. Our move to get AP is what we tried, but a bit of bad luck with Palmer has us looking to get younger, not older. I don’t think the season is lost especially since Stanton is 6-3 as a starter here and 8-5 overall. Glass half full :D

Glad that Cards were not buyers as they need their draft picks and will be in a major rebuild in the off season.

With word that ARZ does not expect Palmer or Johnson back this year, ARZ is in tank mode despite what Arians and Keim say. They are going to take a QB in Round 1 mark me, they just won't tip their hand. Draft a young QB, fix the OL, sign a #1 WR and use draft to upgrade defense with young play makers.

I do not even for a minute understand all these posts about 'this QB' or 'that QB' and we should have gone for them and NOT ONE of them has proven they are anything at all yet, when we have one sitting in our clubhouse that we don't know if he is any good either.

Start Gabbert, find out and then, if he does look bad (not a stretch with the rest of our offense, minus Fitz, but maybe ea can just do 5 out of 6 passes to Fitz, LIKE THEY PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN DOING ALL ALONG), then y'all can start talking about 'this QB' or 'that QB', even though every one of them is a big roll of the dice.

Rams and Eagles rolled the dice and put some other pieces in place and won (don't start the, 'they were 1 and 2 picks arguments', they were universally disparaged as the worst 1, 2 QB draft in history).... other teams roll the dice (CLV etc.) without putting any other pieces in place and fail badly...
that is, I fear greatly, our future, the new Cleveland in the desert... please, please gut this organization Mr Bidwill, from the top, down.

if history is an indicator..."Throw it to Larry" is the offense Stanton will be running...so I will be starting Larry on my fantasy team, lol....
as for gabs,....with five years in the league we know what he can do...just dont know what he can do in our system....a turnaround is possible but honestly not likely for him.

I dont know about worst 1 and 2 in history,...I was all over wentz...dude has star ability and it was obvious... we are fortunate I think because there are lots of good choices at QB in this next draft and we should be in position to get one... which hopefully will solidify the position for us for the next 15 years... that is the one thing that has kept us from being a perennial winner IMO...we have to get our QB...retreads get us a couple good years but then we fall off again when they have to retire... this team needs to stop hesitating, go get the guy they want... then proceed to build the team around him

I think they already have Gabbert slotted as the starter next year to give the new rookie QB a buffer early on and have a scapegoat if things go wrong. And you never know, there's the odd chance you get lucky and Gabbert turns it around. Either way, you're gambling that one of them pans out.

I think the plan is to start Stanton vs SF and Seattle then roll with Gabbert assuming Stanton has a nightmare game vs the Seahawks. You could even start him week 12 which starts a stretch of three straight home games and the last game of the year @Seattle may be meaningless if Seattle has clinched. That's a 5-6 start sample size to determine if he' worth bringing back to start or compete (or just drop him if he sucks). I expect the latter then we draft a QB in the first rd.

You can't be buyers and sellers at the same time. By BA's comments, he all but waved the white flag on the season, saying that DJ and Logan are likely not returning this season, even though their injuries aren't necessarily season ending. If we're waving the white flag, why would we give up assets such as draft picks? Additionally, it takes two to tango. How do we know that the Cardinals tried to make trades and the compensation didn't match? As most GMs have said, roughly 95% of proposed trades are rejected.

I'm not bothered that the Cardinals were sedentary during the trade deadline.

I’m really confused about Logan. That injury should enable him to return. They clearly need to know if he’s the answer on returns, especially punt returns. He has no experience at the latter. It also wouldn’t hurt to know if he can be a third down receiving back as AP couldn’t catch a cold.

Mitch had a good point in another thread about the 2 winless teams trading for, or at least trying to trade for, other team's young backups. 9ers got JG and the Browns tried to get McCarron but someone, the Bengals from what I'm hearing, screwed the paperwork up. Food for thought.
