Haven't seen the game yet. But based on comments it seems that he showed some moxie and showed pretty well for a young UDFA who was thrown into the fire.

Now heading into the BYE with 2 full weeks to work on all 1st team reps. develop timing with Fitz. Get some healthy WR's back in the stable. More time to work out a gameplan perfectly suited to him and his strengths.

Is it unreasonable to think he will get better?

Did you guys/gals that watched think he showed enough promise from this point right now to be able to hold down the spot at a minimum for the rest of this year?

Absolutely!

He made some throws that DA is just incapable of. Of course, he made some rookie mistakes and fumbles but that will happen.

I am a fan. Only time will tell how he develops, but I am really excited. He got passes to Fitz, and he started throwing it away when needed. That was good progress by a guy I am behind 100%. Go max!

Will keep his spot.

Positives: Toughness. Throws a tight ball and was very accurate, particularly on his balls to Fitz.. Made one throw to Fitz (the one where he got facemasked) that was absolutely perfect and in the only spot it could be. Can move around well. Also, had the team behind him. The guys just seem to like playing with him

Negatives: Nothing that can't be fixed.. Needs to realize it's not college and therefore he can't be running and cutting back into defenders.. Needs to throw the ball away.

Overall though, I thought he played well, particularly in the second half. The toughness and accuracy was what I liked the most.

Max made some rookie mistakes - based on the speed of the NFL and the speed of college (the interception and scramble by the goal line come to mind), but he'll get over that soon enough. He showed poise, and made some good decisions in his throwing.

He needs to learn to throw the ball away, but, again he'll pick that up as time rolls on.

I'm loathe to say that he'll finish the season as the starter, but I think it will happen. Fact is, he's much better than Scud. However, once teams get some tape on him and really can game plan a defense for him, we'll see the problems start to arise.

[edit] - the one thing I really couldn't decide on if Max was doing a good job reading defenses - I don't think he had many adjustments (nor should he at this point).

I think he improves from here. The Team has confidence in him to make good decisions. I liked how he used the TE more today and he did have several good passes. In his interview he talked about not worrying about things he cant't control and just go out and be a leader of his guys. He will have to be tough because it seems as if he may be used as a rag doll the rest of the way. Have to have better luck running the ball to open up some lanes for him. He needs to roll out more. As someone else said the learning curve will get much steeper once some film is available on him. This offense will be a team effort he will just be one of the leaders. He is way better than DA but needs alot of things going well to win.

I swear he was smiling after Fitz missed that pass that should have been called PI. He looked over to the sideline and was smiling his lil ass off. He thought Fitz had it, but more than that, he was having a good time. This guy is fun to watch.

Hall, to me, showed that he can take us to the playoffs this year in the NFC West.

He's far more accurate and his passes far more catchable than DA.
He does take too many sacks however.
He makes quicker reads than DA.
Didn't really see enough deep passes to judge him in that regard.

As far as long term potential, I think he *could* be our QBOF, but I don't know if he has the ability to develop into a Pro Bowl caliber QB. The best thing about him, though, is the team seems to rally behind him and play as a team. If the D plays hard each week we can go far with this kid. We'll get better rushing averages. Oh and if Whiz continues to run a decent amount even when it's not getting much yardage, in order to take pressure off Hall and keep the other team's D honest we'll be in good shape.

I will say even though he was really hyper at times, I didnt see any scared look in his eyes. He missed on his reads, especially early(including a pick on his 2nd pass), but as others have noted he did make some nice throws with air under them.

At least he got Fitz in the game and it will surely help when he gets Breaston and Doucet back

I'm not ready to anoint the kid, but he shows promise and he absolutely must hold onto the ball better when running. Also, not sure he ever took a hit at BYU like he did on the Levi touchdown. My guess is he spends some time in the hot tub and trainers room as he took a pretty good beating at times

I think that right now (after 1 game - so with a grain of salt) Hall definably can be a journeyman quarterback for us. Anything beyond that, time will tell.

Loved it. Loved Hall, considering his first start. He has a huge ceiling on his potential.

Our best qb on the roster, and shows signs of improving. Made some rookie mistakes, but that's to be expected. He'll have to be smarter though, or he'll get killed this season.

Hall has a leadership quality about him. Even watching from TV I find myself expecting him to make big plays. Not so with DA. Hall is not completely there now as an NFL QB but the confidence he exudes has to rub off on the other players. I don't think he will keep making the same mistakes so barring injury I think he is the Cardinals QB for the season.

Just accuracy alone should keep him starting. A real gutsy kid for sure. What I really like is he does not get down after a mistake.

Not sure he will be physically able to take the pounding though. He better learn to slide.

Moxie.

Mobility.

Intelligence.

I agree.

I hope he isn't "The Snake" reincarnated, the guy who impresses us with his intagibles & breaks our hearts with some his plays. We need this kid to be good. He should get better with time. Is he "the guy"? only time will tell

Agree. I am much more optimistic about our team tonight than I was yesterday.

It was a good day.

No, it is completely reasonable to expect he will get better. After the pick on his second throw, he did not throw another INT. He already showed improvement just from the 1st half to the second.

If you told me yesterday a UDFA would go 17/27 with one pick, I would be more than happy. More importantly, he did it against the defending SB champions.

And he doesn't set up his WRs to get killed. We both saw him in training camp and I don't think he will be a legit long-ball threat. But Fitz is probably the happiest guy on the team now. 93 yards.

Plus his teammates and coaches just seem to love him. He got tons of hugs after the game from both offensive and defensive players.

Shane,

For Max and Larry? Let's just say this is the start of a beautiful relationship. Those two are going to love each other like brothers. 10-10-10. Mark it down.

Let me first say I am much more comfortable with Hall then DA, and I have been a big Hall critic.

He made some impressive throws. That third down throw to Fitz was perfect. He is also missed some open receivers, not in terms of a poor throw, but by making the wrong throw. That should get better as he gets more comfortable.

However, we were very fortunate today in that the 2 fumbles bounced our way. It would obviously be a different feel around here had they not. As I said, I like Max back there more so than DA, but we are going to have games where Max turns the ball over a number of times.

The best thing is he learns from mistakes unlike DA and a certain ex Cardinal QB from ASU who gave me heartburn for 6 years.

Mistake on the pick, didn't do it again. Mistake near the goalline forcing a throw instead of throwing ball away, later in the game, twice, he threw it away.

He even discovered the TE, 7 catches in the first 4 games by TE's, 5 today(all by Patrick) and a couple more where he targeted the TE but missed him. He figured out the Saints were giving him certain things and he took them.

Look he got lucky as hell on the 2 fumbles, he made mistakes, but with 3 rookie Wr's and a rookie TE playing quite a bit, his first start, he held up, he didn't lose the game.

I'm not ready to annoint him the QBOF, but I'm sure in the hell ready to roll with him at QB. Go Miracle Max!

The Cards were 4/15 on third down conversions today*. Rushed for 1.7 ypc. Averaged 3.2 yards per play on offense. Scored no passing or rushing TDs. And still won.

Maybe he is miracle Max.

*yes as poor as that is it is still better than ofer.

It's a miracle he wasn't killed on the fumble run.

His helmet went flying off but he kept looking at the ball with that "I can take your frikkin hits" look.
