I get it, and to be up in arms about it in September makes sense. I guess I'm just wired different. It's just the Darksiders MO.

As I remember there was some optimism during last season when we won a few games from several Darksiders. Then it all fell apart. Hell I even got in on some Darksiders stuff last year
It's just frustrating being told by the board FA will be different this year, be told we were going to be aggressive, and literally sign one guy that improves our starting lineup. So, it started well, but then ground to a halt. The Zay Jones idiocy just made things worse.

But really this is the cards every year. So what the "board" says really is a big nothing burger. Just wishful thinking. So I won't let that rule my emotions. Your just setting yourself up for more frustration. There was improvement last season so I hold out hope we continue to improve. Cuz hope is all we got.

But actual free agency doesnt start until today. There are still lots of deals to be made and lots of players to make them with... Hendrickson isnt a free agent, that situation is on its entirely own time scale.
But I would expect something during the draft if its going to happen

The reality of free agency this year is that the quality of players is nothing special. Hard to be really aggressive with what is out there. It was much better last year. I like the signing of Sweat and he will help the defense but he is not an elite pass rusher just one of the best that was available.

I'm going off reports that Cincy was looking for a day 2 pick. A day 2 pick and cash would just be a no brainer. I get that it may not be possible to do. What I do NOT get is posters talking like it wouldn't make any sense.
.
We don’t know exactly what they’re asking for. He’s an elite player that’s available yet hasn’t been moved. If it took just a day two pick he’d be gone.

I’d start with Beej + 3rd then shift to a 2nd as negotiations go.

17.5 sacks two years in a row and he's 30. The Cards are faced with the typical trap. The odds he gets 17 again; slim to none, and he if does not, how much less? 10, 8? They have to be aggressive which makes this a tough call with the money part of it. A 3rd would be great. A 2nd is likely what they get.

Hey WC. I was a lifelong kool-aider until recently. You’re welcome to jump on board anytime!

However , MO was crowing about being aggressive this year in free agency. It was a much different narrative than last year. HE invoked the hope and excitement in the fanbase.

The frustration really stems from the "Monti is always right" crowd. Believe it or not, it was better when everyone knew our GM was sucking, as we could mostly agree on stuff :)

Which is a damning statement on Monti's capabilities.

Where are you seeing that?
Posted in Threads. It refreshed before I could get the link. It said the Commanders and one other team were still in on it. It forget the other team. It said the $30 million a year extension was also a hold up.

It was a checkmarks account, but appears to be a local Cincinnati person.

Founds others, but not the original with the $30 million a year extension

They will ask for what they want to get, along with unicorns and rainbows, but probably will settle for a second this year and something next year. Sweat is a good player but when lacking other good players around him, a team for the most part can double him out if they choose to when having competent linemen. What bothers me is that until they show, we only have one good player in Sweat that can rush the passer. Then you have this, wait for it... injuries, so if he gets hurt we are not even functional unless we scheme just like last season.
Monti better get another pass rusher that is at least slightly above average and the double down and draft another high or we stay mediocre. Settling just with Sweat is half a$$, and will not make a difference

.... or, I dunno...we could pick Jack Sawyer in round 2?

Same size and body type...nearly identical college stats...both hard hustling dudes...Sawyer might be meaner though,...which isnt a bad thing

Look at the first three seasons and Hendrickson didnt do squat...the guy developed, imagine that

Trey was way more athletic than Sawyer.

Only similarity is white.

The "crowd" could not elevate my frustration. I mean we all got opinions on how things should/could go, but at the end of the day, we're just fans. We don't know what anybody is asking for and what the cards are willing to pay.
