A possibility for sure. I think they would really need the money for something to insert the uncertainty of starting a rookie S. Maybe they feel DTD showed enough to start next to Budda but they can just let the two compete as well.
A small sample size, but for that he did IMO.

Do not want to cut Thompson just because, but will be surprised if DTD is not starting by mid season even if Thompson stays

He got lucky. This was a cut. Had the guy not been cut, what were the options at DT? That said, after getting lucky, he closed the deal, so kudos to Monti for that.
true - monti paid but he didn't trade - i appreciate that tho - he got his guys and kept his draft intact

we knew that's how he rolled but we didn't think he'd spend the whole money roll - me - you - chop - etc - monti made it rain and needed mikey's blessing to do so - im feeling better about monti today big time

The 49ers released a lot of players. The Cards are a good draft away from competing for a wild card spot or division. Adams is over 30, 49ers set free many players, Seahawks are pretty underrated and will be a challenge. But the Cards have an answer in all this. A good D line, decent overall defense and this team competes.

Honestly, this thread is a little embarrassing if you read it back. Imagine thinking that free agency was over before it even started officially.
Yes. Who could blame us when you look back at the stellar actions of this organization for the last 30 years.
2008 was 17 years ago.
2015 was 10 years ago.
A lot of dumb and ineptness has gone on in between those years.

So don’t be embarrassed by our action or thoughts. Be embarrassed by the way this franchise has let us down and bamboozled their fans.

Yippee, we finally acted closer to what a professional organization should act like.

Once all signings are done, we'll have 73 players on the roster. 79 with draft picks. 11 spots to fill via UDF and FA.

I'd expect 2-3 FA signings based on that.

We need to be expecting a wild card spot at this juncture, in year 3, not hoping to compete after a good draft. And I think we have a better chance today of being that kind of team. Fingers crossed.

We were competing for a wild card last year. Making the playoffs is the only acceptable goal. And, yes, improving the defense is the key to next season even more than the offense. I started saying that well before the season was even over.

Are you saying you feel embarrassed? Or is this a passive aggressive way for you to say others should feel embarrassed?

It wasn't passive aggressive. I thought it was quite clear that other should be embarrassed. I'll try to be more strident in future.

But seriously, the number of "We're done already" and "Monti doesn't know what he's doing" type posts before the legal tampering period even finished was pretty sad.

I don't even think they are done now. I expect at least one, likely two more decent signings.

They were always acting that way. You just don't get to see the pie until it's baked.
ALWAYS??? You mean since yesterday? Okay.
Based on history we had a right to doubt. You can’t be seriously talking about “always”. Come on.

And for the record I’m glad to be wrong for the first time in a long time… like forever.

It was known since (at least) Monday that Tomlinson would be cut on Wednesday... so we can credit Ossenfort for knowing that he'd be one of the available DT options, reportedly trying for some of the others, and closing the deal with Tomlinson on the first day he was available, without too much luck being involved.

Nothing lucky about reading the room and knowing productive guys would be released. At that point several other teams would have maxed their spending and bargains can be had. That’s experience.
