The refs seemed favorable to it when we Giannis did it to us in the Finals. Too soon?

That was minimal contact. Book does the same thing to create contact.

Giannis was running ppl over in the finals.

I thought Giannis lowering his shoulder into defenders in the Finals was a foul too. When he is allowed to do this, he is almost impossible to guard.

Luka runs people over as well, using his shoulder to clear space.

Not close to an offensive foul however PJ traveled on the catch and shoot.
he did! that would have been the funniest travel call I've ever seen. definitely not an offensive foul on doncic. I think he leaned in to sell the fake. too bad dak Prescott can't do that to hit an open guy.

I agree about both players lowering their shoulder into people. that wasn't a play where an offensive foul should have been called. the more important observation of the night for me is that the spurs still suck and Klay Thompson hit six 3 point shots.

I'm thinking you have been watching Luka get away with this stuff, much too much. :)

well I've also seen him get fouled 20 times in a game and not get many calls. he plays to contact so I'm surprised he doesn't get more offensive fouls. you know dirk and shaq both used to drill people in their post up game. dirk kind of cheated because he would throw his body in and then fade away. I think offensive players adapt to being more aggressive when defenders body them to defend.

If Luka had simply driven into Wembanyama without lowering his shoulder, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Wembanyama was not set.

It's the lowering of a shoulder into the defender to clear space is what I consider an offensive foul.

yeah and it was a good fake by doncic to freeze the defense. he's a smart player.

Freeze it, he could have broken Wembanyama. :wink2:

Luka knew he couldn't shoot over the top.

That's interesting. I haven't watched the Knicks yet but I hope to soon. The narrative on Mikal seems a bit exaggerated. He's not a #1, I don't think anyone believes he is, and he's settled into a complimentary role that suits his skills and there was a lot of chatter about how he's fallen off or been exposed. The stats look good though. I'll need to check out the Knicks soon to see for myself.

2 games is small sample size but no NBA team in history has won it's first 2 games by as many points as the Warriors. And Buddy Hield first 2 games en fuego.

They are playing faster this year, pushing the ball more. The scary thing is Curry hasn't had a good shooting game yet and Kuminga was silent last night and they still won by 40 plus. Yes not great opponents but intriguing. they are still small but the defense at least so far seems better.

Luka should be called for offensive fouls all the time, but not enough contact on that one with Wemby.

Really? He gained quite an advantage from that contact, that's more than enough AFAIC. The rules change and get interpreted differently all the time so who knows, today, what really has to be called and what can be overlooked? I certainly don't. But they always used to say when calling or not calling a foul that they judged it based on whether a player gained an advantage from initiating that contact. This game would be a lot better if they still officiated that way IMO.

He intended to make solid contact with him, but it seems like he missed the target. Had his shoulder landed on Wemby's chest I could see it being called, but he simply didn't really connect.

Dammit Curry rolls the left ankle sits for a few minutes, comes back and immediately rolls it again. They're losing, too many turnovers but the Curry ankle is the big news

Clipps are scrappy. We play them again this week.
Yeah, they are deep, they are very well coached, they play hard and they play together. And I think they'll take advantage of more than a few teams early in the season, especially teams with veteran stars that might not hit their stride until somewhere between Christmas and Valentine's Day.

They may be scrappy, but they are severely talent deprived.

They will be at the bottom of the western conference by the end of the year.

I wouldn't say "severely" but yes, I agree they have fewer star/near star quality players than most playoff teams have. And they will likely be on the outside looking in come playoffs unless Kawhi shocks us all.
