Set 10K years prior to Paul Atreides and focusing on the Bene Gesserit origins. I hope they give background on the other guilds as well.

I have to be honest. As good as this looks? I don't trust Max as a platform. Especially, with super expensive shows which this will be. The average cancellation rate on streaming platforms is around 10% to 12%. Max is operating at a 26.9% clip going back to 2020. YIKES. I know they have been doing a ton of restructuring but that is more than double any other platform.

Oh damn… this starts right after Penguin ends, huh?

It looks good, but I gotta be honest… I think it sucks that HBO is going the way of every other media company.

If HBO’s flagship Sunday night’s just become a rotation of Batman, Dune and Harry Potter franchise fare, that strikes at the heart of original story telling. Their Sunday night shows used to be what separated them from everyone else, taking chances on original ideas no one else would, with great talent across the board.

I have to admit, Episode 1 was kind of boring. It has some potential. Oh and considering the set designs and FX designs? We are supposed to buy that this is 10,000 years before the events of the movies? Wait huh? Who decided on that? The setting of this show requires a massive suspension of belief that this world wouldn't advance in 1,000 years let alone 10,000. This might be the worst plot decision I have seen in some time in a series even if you believe they became more practical after the war with "thinking machines".

Looking pretty good so far.

Anybody know Dune history? I don't recall if it was covered previously as I haven't read the book in decades.
They mention in episode 1 a war with machines...and it being the reason thinking machines are illegal.
This explains in some ways why they use a creature to travel to hyperspace. Because it would obviously take a pretty intelligent machine to make the calculations,...so they found something that did it naturally and harnessed it.
