Suns are far from being a contender. I thought that was his plan. I am not so sure Matty knows what he is doing. I could be wrong but the proof is in the pudding ;)
Mark Cuban started out the same way for the Mavericks. Things got better. There is no reason to think the same thing won't happen here. Mat mastered the mortgage business and now he's working on mastering the NBA business. These things don't always happen overnight.

this makes it sound like the nba knows we're going to have some new exciting line up - because who in their right minds would want to watch what we currently have

It certainly sounds that way.

Either the Suns are making their way upriver or looking to tumble over the nearest water fall.

Jimmy Butler is an all-star player and he provides the toughness the Suns sorely need not only in the backcourt but the front court as well.

At 35, he should be good for a two-year extension, which fits the Suns window of 2-3 years. IMO, we should be thinking about a championship window if the Suns trade for him.

The Suns weakness is in the front court and if the Suns can add a 4/5 in a spinoff trade this should greatly improve their playoff chances.

Edit: Another way to look at it, the Suns would gain some leadership they lost with Chris Paul's departure.
There is no window.

That is like saying the Atlanta Hawks or the Warriors have a window - it just sounds stupid to anyone but a biased Suns fan.

I have to say this respect Butler gets constantly baffles me.

He has had a few good playoff games and somehow people think he can work miracles. Make no mistake making this Suns team into a contender would require a miracle.

He did take the 8th seeded Heat to the finals?

I'd recommend you call Mat Ishbia, James Jones, the Suns front office and other NBA teams promptly with this information.
Why don't you ask a fan of literally any other team who has played against us if they think we have a "window". Even Lakers fans would laugh at that and they are so cocky they always think they have a window.

I know Suns management thinks we do - why do you think I keep calling them idiots.

I bet a lot of teams were thinking the same about the 2020-21 Suns as well.

Yeah in the bubble, when the sorry Lakers won the whole thing. If you think that doesn't have a gigantic asterisk I don't know what to tell you.
Uh… that was 2 years ago he took the Heat to the Finals as an 8 seed.

They were a 4 or 5 seed in the bubble.

Maybe Butler will make the games more exciting to watch? This is the most boring suns team I can remember. Outside of watching Dunn progress, most games are a real snoozer...

If Butler can complement Booker and KD, so the three can effectively be on the court at the same time he should be an improvement over Beal. If Butler can excel in big games it would be a huge step from what we currently have. Assuming we make the playoffs.

The concern will be the length of his contract extension. If it's as long as Beals, then great why not make the trade we have little to lose. Extending him past Booker's contract would be a massive mistake.

So Beal now becomes the face of our franchise or is he out the door also?

Unless you find someone to take that ridiculous contract and have him waive his no trade, but we knew it was the worst contract in basketball when we made that trade.

It is what it is at this point

My favorite Jimmy Butler story is taking the bench guys and beating the crap out of the starters in practice when he was in Minnesota.

Respect. Butler came into the league as a defensive specialist role player like Bowen was, but he really worked hard to become a star. Also, he is supposed to make fringe players play over their talent, and capbable of kicking KD and Book's passive ass on the court.

You really just need to stop. I get it trust me I do, but you really need to take off the glasses.

It’s over Bud it was a fun season in 20/21 but it’s 2025 and we might make the play in game lol.

Something the 20/21 Suns shares with the 22 Warriors, 23 Nuggets, and 24 Celtics is they were complete teams vs stars thrown together with no regard for fit or play style. It's very rare stars can produce championships without sacrificing what made them stars. I can see calling back to those Suns because they were young and should have built on vs torn down and remade entirely. It makes more sense on a Suns board to call for a return to that vs the 2023 Nuggets also.
