I dont want them to take a Guard at this point...and its kind of out of spite.
They picked Isiah Adams last year at pick 71...which means he needs to start. They picked him ahead of MUCH MUCH better players like Cooper Bebee (who ended up starting at Center and played well) and Dominic Puni who was the 6th highest rated guard in the league last year.
This was the single most confusing pick of the Monti Era to me...because Adams would have been available in the 6th round based on talent. This screamed "were smarter than everyone else"...even more so that Melton over the other CBs. There was no one who had Adams ranked that high, and we took him anyway.
So now the runway is clear. If he can't step up and start at RG...then he is a bust (at least for a high 3rd round pick). If we bring in a day 3 OG who we think is a better prospect, then he is a bust. Time to put up or shut up.
And to be clear, I dont blame Adams himself. He didnt draft himself 3 rounds early. I wouldnt expect him to step up and start if he had been picked at 171....but when you're the 7th pick in the 3rd round..and he was somehow the 3rd interior O-lineman off the board...then the pressure is on.
