    Elmer stinks!

Disagreeing with your disagreement with Shillingfan here  Perhaps you haven't read Bob Nightengale's May 7 article in the USA Today Sports Weekly that quotes Jerry Colangelo:

    Brenly and Mondays game

When teams do the shift on Gonzo, it is for a reason.... 1. Gonzo is not a bunter.... Neither is Matt Williams for that matter, which was painfully obvious when he attempted to sacrifice last night 2. When Gonzo hits the ball on the ground, he will be pulling the ball--he very rarely...

    Just say no to Hillenbrand

That would be the conventional wisdom since most often "they" do ... but go back in time, and you will find the same type of punditry for Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Willie McCovey, and a ton of others...

    Giants losing again

Depends on how you look at it..... Go division by division and ask yourself which team would be most irritating for Bud to win its division and move on in the playoffs--the D'backs and JC would have to be the choice in the NL West.

    The Stopper pitches today!

To place all the blame for today's current situation (as of now, down 6-4 in the bottom of the 8th) on Elmer is ludicrous... He struggled through five innings, but left with a 4-2 lead. The way the bullpen has usually performed would have actually set him up for a win.... but such is baseball...

    Giants losing again

Would love to see all the teams that would be most embarrassing for Bud to win their divisions, so that would include the Expos, Twins, and D'backs

Ok Curt - show Philly what they are missing!

Completely dominating performance--textbook example of major league pitching!

    Giants losing again

Get back to .500 and THEN we can look ahead to catch the Gnats.... and with current trends, that could make the upcoming home series with Gnats much more interesting!!!!

wow, curt throws a shutout and not a peep about it from you guys...

Yount was feeling ill so didn't man first on Friday (heard this from Pittsburgh announcers).. No peeps from me because I've been travelling from Phoenix to Portland to Pittlsburgh the past few days, hearing the ending of Friday's game on the radio in Phoenix and watching Saturday's game live...

Are SBs really just running in place?

Re: Re: Re: Are SBs really just running in place? I doubt that anyone would make a case that a SB equals a HR since that's an instant run vs. a potential run.... and anytime you get on base is a valuable asset to the team. The fastest runner in the world does a team zero good without the...

Are SBs really just running in place?

A big "if" that may well be determined by the team makeup. In the case of the Marlins and A's it definitely holds, but I'm still thinking of the old days in the sixties when the Dodgers had almost no power and relied on Maury Wills to generate a few runs.... and the Cardinals during the Lou...

    Oscar Villarreal usage

Overuse is a huge worry in Oscar's case.... BB needs to pay more attention to this... Recently read Herzog's most recent book.... and he discusses how poorly Tommy Lasorda would use his pen--the main fault he found was how the Dodgers would get their guys warmed up night after night without...

    Webb's performances

Most impressive thing about Webb was maturity he demonstrated tonight (er last night) by adjusting when he didn't have his "A" game--still finding ways to hold the Braves down. Definitely a keeper!

huh? To "toss Schilling back to minors" would be even MORE "retarded"

    DH Rule in NL

Does every point have to have a negative or positive value? Even before the DH was instituted, many NL players in the 1960's used to regard the AL as a retirement league, with its emphasis on sluggers and playing for the big inning--the DH made that philosophy official.

    DH Rule in NL

This all depends on how you view the game. If you only focus on the offensive side for that half inning, of course you'd love to have more viable options with Kim's at bat... Having the DH does make a manager's job much easier when he doesn't have to consider how to incorporate the pitcher into...

Schilling pushed back to Saturday vs. Braves

Webb could be brought up in case of injury to another player... perhaps Curt would have qualified; however, Rod Barajas was put on the active roster in Curt's place. When they activate Curt Saturday, someone will be going down.
