    Stiiiink!!

Matty and Gonzo are stroking the bats well... they need some non-suicidal ducks on the pond though!

What this team needs to do

Somebody can look this up, but didn't the Giants go 8-9 games down early in the year in 2000?

    New peak age??

Don't know details on others, but Musial did go into a more intense physical training regimen during the latter part of the fifties to extend his career. No way was it as sophisticated as the ones available today, but he did more than most of his fellow mates.

    Dang it, Mantei!!!

I remember that well! When people were complaining about BK's roller coaster closing innings, it seems that they forgot that Mantei did exactly the same thing--very rarely was the save "routine"

    Way To Go!

A huge relief!! Mainly ... though hearing only on the radio it sounded like real baseball again... I was getting tired of the Keystone Cops re-runs.

    ESPN harsh on the Diamondbacks

E-Rod seems to get so caught up in the moment of "wishing" the D'backs to score that he totally disrards the situational aspects (who's running, who's fielding, the number of outs, the coming batter, etc.) that he nearly automatically does the windmill routine. Right after CC was thrown out...

    Schilling

When team is going badly... of course some concern, but I'm not worried about Curt. His first outing was very good (until hitting the wall in an inning that he shouldn't have been pitching), and he's often had difficulty at Coors--the big blast in the first was from an off speed pitch that...

    ESPN harsh on the Diamondbacks

hmmm... well... I don't drink... but another week like the opening one, and I may take it up!

Ugh, what is wrong with this team

Way early, and this team's past history indicates that they will in time hit better than .156 and average more than 1.5 runs a game ... but it brings back memories of the Dodgers of the 1962-66 seasons when Koufax was so dominant. He knew going into the game that he couldn't allow more than one...

    Settle this fantasy baseball fiasco

If you picked him up fair and square, I see no problem.... If he wants to cry to the Commissioner and plead his case, let him do so. If the Commissioner goes strictly by the rules... you win. If he is like Bud Selig, you lose :-)

Continual "phudd" references is an excellent way to get yourself put on ignore status

    4/2 Game Thread

A bit of hyperbole there--Koplove had an excellent outing, Curt was awesome through seven innings (which is as far as he should have gone, considering early season and the pitch count), Chad showed a good arm behind the plate, Junior showed offensive spark in game two, overall defense has been...

    What's with Eddie Rodgriquez????

heh... true.... words like "surreal," "insane," "ludicrous," and "stupid" all come to mind, but BB keeps referring to ER's judgement as "agressive" and relaying how ER "is forgiven." Being reminded about polar opposite mentality of Butterfield did make me laugh--it was no wonder that the media...

    I'm ready for some baseball.

I have the same gut reaction though I restrain myself from expressing it outwardly at the game. Whenever I see Matty coming up in a situation that really needs him to have a productive at bat, internally I'm thinking "uh oh" while praying for an increasingly infrequent minor "miracle."

    What's with Eddie Rodgriquez????

He's made a few bad calls the first two games, and definitely an understatement on Danny since the ball was waiting for him at the place while he was only 1/2 way home.... but, as a caller to the post game show mentioned, the over "agressive" Rodriguez is more tolerable than the Butterfield...

    4/1 Game thread

?? But with only two scattered hits, no runs, and most balls hit into routine flies and grounders against a team that wasn't swinging for the fences . . . it certainly had a FEEL that Curt was dominant through seven innings!!!

    4/1 Game thread

Another factor I haven't seen thrown out yet... The unspoken factor. It was a surprise to see BB go to the mound to talk to Randy, just as much as it is a rarity for BB to go to the mound to talk to any pitcher if he's leaving the pitcher in the game... Generally, he sends the pitching coach...

    Dbacks Win!

Curt DID dominate through 7 innings--just looked like he suddenly "hit the wall" in the 8th. It's rare for starting pitchers to go the distance in the first few weeks of the season...

    Pedro Gomez is leaving

Good riddance for us and this hack won't be difficult to replace on the Repulsive staff... I fear that ESPN will look at Pedro as their resident "expert" on Arizona sports... I'd love to see him attempt to interview the Texas Rangers manager  since he knows all the inside info on him

    Some positive for a change...

Great pitching can overcome a mediocre offense (the Dodgers of the early 60's are just one classic example), but the D'backs figure to produce more runs than some past pitching rich teams with little offense.... so D'backs fans have more than pipe dreams to get up their hopes for the season...

    Elmer

Definitely. Home runs are about the only batting category that Stan never led the league in, but that year he came close. I first began watching baseball when Stan was in his last half dozen years and remember watching his every move when we attended a Cardinals game--a family tradition...

    Unit agrees to extension

Just finished Jane Leavy's biography on Koufax, and RJ is definitely a different animal. No sign of arm trouble and getting better with age--the two year extension is worth the "risk" since the championship franchise was built around the Unit.

    Here's the latest cuts

Getting proven younger players to relax is not necessarily a bad thing. Both Overbay and Patterson have labored in the minors for many years and gone through plenty of struggles.... They still will not relax to the point of complacency since they KNOW that they can easily be sent back down for...
