    With a dependable Closer, we'd be 4-1, not 2-3

Pushing the panic button too early.. there will NOT be a reliable, dependable closer available. MANY teams are going through the same blown save scenario we are... with NAME closers. If panic mode ensues, Dbacks will end up dealing Scotty Hairston to Colorado for old times sake (thinking...

what do you think after one week?

This team is infinitely more entertaining to watch than last year's crew, whether they compete seriously for the division title or not. Many fans are currently crying around MLB. Consider that after one week, the Dbacks have a better record than both the AL and NL champs of last season, AND...

    Diamondbacks/Dodgers series thread

Yep... still far more entertaining than last year... when we'd get down by one run in the first and KNOW that the game was virtually out of reach.

    What's up with Alex ?

For sure! I did a back to back weekend thing near the end of last season, catching the Red Sox series at Yankee Stadium followed by the last two regular season games at Fenway against the Yankees. It was soooo much more fun at Fenway, that I'm heading back for all three regular season games...

    Webb’s effort reaps win

Webb has never been a great strike out pitcher (he wasn't in his rookie year either), and is not likely to ever be one ... When his sinker is working, he will get a lot of ground balls so he needs solid infield defense to succeed. When his pitches are really working, the batters won't get good...

    What's up with Alex ?

The overblown media coverage is getting really old... especially when ESPN feels like they need to "educate us" about the importance, history, and intensity of the rivalry... There are other matchups that are as interesting as this one for the opening series.

    Melvin mum on tipping

heh.. the "tipping" scenario has almost become cliche for Arizona baseball writers. How many times did we see that same story whenever RJ or Curt had a bad outing?

    Melvin Names Halsey Fifth Starter

?? Didn't the Yankees win their division in 2002, 2003, and 2004 and get to the World Series in 2003? Is that really considered "nothing?" Also, George and his team operate in a totally different universe. MUCH more income to the team from the fat TV revenue and other NYC based resources...

    Melvin Names Halsey Fifth Starter

Essentially agree with your ideas, BUT the most positive thing the current front office did over the off season was refuse to trade away our blue chip prospects, so I'm still hopeful that they can visualize a better quality team down the road. I didn't like a number of their other moves...

    Official 2005 Predictions thread

AL playoffs could never finish that way unless MLB changes its rules. Division rivals can not face each other in the first round.

LOVE your sig ... I've been watching Illini basketball closely all year (at least regular season when CBS wasn't @#$@%$% televising early Tourney games). That's my old school, and I've been wearing the same orange Illini T-shirt every game day (can't wash it since you do NOT mess with a...

More outtings like Ortiz last night (and Estes certainly capable of the same wildness), and Gosling will get plenty of innings work from the pen.

    Red Sox Unload Kim

Colorado is nothing but a rocky graveyard for pitchers... Have heard that BK's velocity has topped out at 86 of late, so it's no certainty that his woes are strictly due to the head case theory. Afraid his best years are behind him... there's a number of such flashes in the pan throughout...

Cards trade Myers to Red Sox

If you want some chuckles, check this Cardinals BB for messages about Michael Myers (remember him with the Dbacks) and the Cardinals trading him to the Red Sox. I didn't even remember him going to the Cards... thought he either was still with the Sox or faded into oblivion. But there are...
