I’m on record that Thompson should be the odd man out. Cutting Thompson with a post 6/1 designation adds $10 mil to available cap with only $3.5 dead money.
I hope not, as I think the secondary has been a very positive surprise, and I would like to keep them all together for some years. That said, if one of Budda Baker or Jalen Thompson needs to move, so there is space for DTD, I certainly hope it will be Thompson. Bakers are way too valuable. Much more than most safeties around the NFL.

Of course. But you have to play with the “Cards” you have in your hand!
Yes, you are right, but I also don’t think the approach will change, even if one, two or three new front five players are added. Gannon swears to a zone defense that will give up the shorter gains but prevent the big ones. I doubt that it will change, though it hopefully will be more effective.

6 & 7 were merely a matter of Benson & Taylor-Demerson getting a decent amount of reps. Both are NFL starters and great pics. I’m on record that Thompson should be the odd man out. Cutting Thompson with a post 6/1 designation adds $10 mil to available cap with only $3.5 dead money. Browning is a great (not just good) athlete. I have faith the Cards’ coaching can make him an impact player but perhaps as a role player.

Safeties are hard to scout.

We have three, two proven.

The actual Dead money is $3.5m in 2025 and a further $3.5m in 2026.

Cutting one that has value on the open market to save a bit of Cap space when you have plenty is, in a word, dumb (IMO).

To me, if we let Jalen go or trade him there must be someone else not in the current discussion who the coaches are high on.

I really believe our focus will be on the front seven in free agency and draft.

I sure hope so. I think that is by far the biggest need. Actually, I feel fairly good about all other units.
I agree. Not Perfect, But No Big holes. Add another Big body DT and elite pass rushing skills.
Zaven is Actually rated really at OLB Per pff. Only problem is that he is close to elite run support and coverage, But has a really low rating in pass rush

I hate to say this, but if somehow a lockdown-type CB1 fell into our lap, well... :)

Because GWill is playing the slot/nickleback, which is fine, but that means we have SMB and STV as CB1/CB2. I'm not sure we can make a deep playoff run with those two getting the majority of the snaps (I guess maybe we'll see this year).

Maybe Melton is a starter, maybe not. It still looks iffy to me.

Melton is definitely a starter and only going to get better. STV is the odd man out.
But nothing would help this defense more than to be able to create a pass rush with 4 guys.

I’d take another lockdown CB.

I like Melton more and more as the season progresses.
